Wiis in Canuckistan

Alright, so my younger sister asks me today "I want a new game system this Christmas, which one should I get?".

I end up going with the Wii because:

a) she's already got a Gamecube and loves it
b) she's not into those FPS, ultra-violent type games, and the Wii seemed the best option for good games NOT of that type
c) will force my father to deal with waggle on a daily basis, which can only be amusing

So, good call you think?

Anyway, my main question was:

Will it be easy to get a Wii this Christmas?
Where should I be looking?
Any good deals out there? bundles? freebees?

I'm in Toronto, Canada btw, if location is important.

Thanks for the help.

Also, plaster up any Canadian deals you can find. We can make this thread multipurpose.

I'm not sure how the deal compares to elsewhere, but I've seen Wii's at the HMV in The Eaton Centre, and I've seen signs for Wii's at the HMV at the corner of Yonge and Dundas, so the utter draught seems to be over... YMMV in regards to how that stock is holding up with Christmas coming, however.

If I was your father, I would shove a Wii mote right up your ass so your little sister had to move you to play.

It won't be easy to get.
You should look at EBGames and Gamestops.
The console is the cheapest of this gen, you cheap bastard.

I actually got mine at Zellers. They don't sell out as quick over there, I guess because most people don't think to look there for games. Don't buy games there though, their prices tend to be a bit more expensive than other places I've found. I called ahead when they kept selling out everywhere, and they held one for me.

    Btw, this is in Scarborough.

Yeah, Zellers is good. I haven't been looking for Wiis, but have never seen any except once at Zellers.

I see them everywhere in Canada. Tons in Barrie. I haven't been to Toronto to really see there. I'm positive there are Wiis in Newmarket. You shouldn't have a problem yet. It's when Christmas really starts to hammer down you need to hurry. But if you do it quick you should be alright.

You should easily be able to find a Wii by Christmas. THIS SAID, I wouldn't procrastinate. I'd start looking for it right now, buy it as soon as possible, then hide it somewhere. If you wait too long, you won't be able to get one anymore. Don't forget that, no matter how easy it is to buy one right now, Dec 25th is Christmas for everyone, and a lot of people still want to buy a Wii.

I live in Sudbury, just a few hours north of Toronto, and I see Wiis in Walmart and the Canadian Superstore all the damn time...but with Xmas approaching, I don't know how much longer that will be true.

Check www.futureshop.ca and www.bestbuy.ca on monday/tuesday nights because that's when their shipments come in. You can check 4 stores at a time for store availability online. I've also seen Wiis at Shopper's Drugmart.

I'd be trying VG+ if you're on Paypal or have a credit card.

They have Mario Party 8 and Galaxy bundles on hand at the moment as well as the console itself and if they can get stuff out to me in a week when I live on the opposite side of the world then you should get it pretty quick.

They don't have any deals running, but they have the Wiis in stock if you are struggling to find one.

Not that I know of. Personally, I'd be more worried about getting a Wii at all than at a reduced price. Not that I want to sound like a dick, but it's already pretty inexpensive (yeah, yeah, I know, why not take a sale if you have the opportunity, I agree, I'm just sayin').

Yeah I know. But I'm a cheap man (ie - a student). Sale > No Sale. But I'll take No Sale if it's the only option.

Considering how the damn things selling I didn't think there was really any chance of sales or bundles.

I actually work at Zellers and we very rarely have any in because they sell out the day we get them. This means you should start looking now because they will be hard to find because everyone else will be looking as well.

Same, the Zellers I'm at sells out fairly quickly. But I see them all the time at the Wal-Mart super centre in Scarborough.

What? First time I've heard of Wii's in Barrie since I saw one in May at the TRU. Something must have changed in the last few months.

Anyways, like everyone else recommended, Zellers is probably the most likely place to find some, since it's not the first place people think for games. Start making calls every day though, as they're gonna be harder and harder to find in the next few weeks.

As noted, Shopper's Drug Mart has that and DS, games, the whole bit.

Prices seem all over the board, though. Wii was $269, Wii Play $59... they seemed to be charging over or under MSRP on some DS games. I think New SMB was cheaper than most places by five bucks, and Mario Kart DS was more.

Honestly, though, I echo the "buy it now" crowd. I bought two Wiis on launch weekend last year (on seperate occassions) and I see them in stores all the time, but they are always just a couple units left, and usually sell-out while i'm there. As long as you are willing to make the phone calls, and able to pick it up as soon as you see it, you shouldn't have any trouble.

I'm over in Burlington, and we have five EB's here (all like 5-10 min from each other, like wtf?) but each time I go to any of them they have two-three Wii's sitting behind the counter, so I don't think finding one should be too much of a problem.

If you want to make the commute to Burlington there's an independent game shop on Mount Forest Drive that was recently overstocked on Wiis. I'm PMing you the phone number so you can call ahead to see if there are any left. Because it's an independent shop the owner tries to come in under the larger chains, when he can, to remain competitive.

I live in Whitby and I saw Wii's for sale in Shopper's Drug Mart. Needless to say, as long as you don't wait too long to buy the system, you're going to be okay. Wait until 10 days before Christmas and there might be issues.

There are three Wii consoles just sitting in the open, all alone, in my local Shoppers Drug Mart. They're not that hard to find at the moment, but don't dawdle. :P

We're all sold out over here in the UK with them going on ebay for £100 more. Get a Wii before this happens over there :)
