Motivation problem

I'm a junior in college. I have a high GPA, but my schoolwork has begun to suffer this semester due to a lack of motivation/discipline. I can't really get excited about doing anything, so it's very difficult to get myself to sit down and get anything finished in a timely manner. I still enjoy what I do when I have free time (video games, hanging out with friends, sometimes working out), but not to the extent that I can't use it as a "reward" for finishing my work. It is all too common that I'll sit down to do homework and end up staring at the wall for a loooong time instead of getting anything done. This started at the beginning of the year and has gotten worse while my classes have become harder and I don't know what to do now. Any advice? thanks!

Start doing homework and studying with other people in those classes where you need it. I find that having other people leaning on me to pull my weight in the group is great motivation to actually get some work done.

I think I've fallen into a bit of a similar slump and the truth is that you need to find something to get excited about. I get really excited about doing research behind a subject and doing presentations...I am not sure how to break it myself, as I now tend to focus and emphasize the things that really interest me, but it is important to try and develop a curious mind.

Try limiting the distractions around you - use music, the lack of a computer, anything. As soon as you find yourself becoming apathetic about what you are doing, switch up assignments and see how the other goes.

Frequent breaks are must for me when I'm not motivated to study, every 30-60mins I'll take a 5 minute break and surf the internet, grab a snack, get and walk around, think, etc.

Try and think through whatever it is that's on your mind that distracts you from your studies.

If you daydream a lot (I know I do, about cars, life, etc) just tell yourself during "Yeah, I WILL get/do that and to do it I need to work hard, there is no easy way." and get back to studying.

Also, go to the library, it's easier to study there because if you lift your head up, there's nothing to see except other people with their heads down, studying and it will motivate you further to study/stop looking around and slacking.

Thanks guys - I'll try the library thing and switching up assignments. The library thing has helped me before - they're "renovating" our library right now and I haven't bothered to figure out the new schedule/open areas.
