This has to be some kind of joke, I just jumped through a gate, was accelerating out the other end and got rammed from the rear by some huge ship I really didn't get a good look at. Of course I didn't save after my 7 jumps to get to this gate. Is it possible to set a course to autopilot, outside of commanding a second ship to go somewhere and following it?

God, that sucks, and it sucks even more when you're that huge ship. "Oh hai Mr. Super Freighter, what's that, You have lost reputation?" :(

Yeah I've done the cherry pop before, Pop out of the gate and blow your shit all over teh side of another ship 3 seconds into the sector. It sucks, why i always dock at a station in every sector I visit for a quick autosave

Is the Goner mission where you have to defend a bunch of things bugged or just really really stupid? There is practically no way to save the ships, since the pirates get a head start with their M5s and raperaperape, but if you use an M5 you're not going to be able to take out the heavier shit. I mean, I understand bringing 5 M5s, 4 M4s, 3 M3s, an M6 and a bomber to take out stations, and that's doable since stations have a lot of HP, but... why are they sending the exact same huge strike teams to blow up lone unarmed Goner ships?!?

To top it off the pirates don't despawn if you fail to save something, so when the next thing you need to save spawns in that system you get to fight twice as many ships if you didn't spend time clearing out the old group while the next group is closing on the next target and god damn it.

And the worst part is that if you try to ignore the mission they keep sending you messages about it and aborting and re-giving the mission automatically! I hate defense missions in these kinds of games. They always suck, every single one of them. Remember TIE Fighter? There were defense missions in that. They sucked! Wing Commander? Yep, defense missions. Sucked!

    So for shits and giggles

I tried to take on a boron shark in my buster sentinel equipped with 4 Beta IREs and 2 BPACs in one of those " screw the game, I'll futz around until i die then stop playing for awhile " moments.

Managed to get its shields all the way down somehow, before i crashed into it and went boom.

    _

and on an similarly goof related note, I just realized you can go through a jump in your space suit, without a ship

Are we talking Reunion or TC? Cos in Reunion you just gotta go sorta straight up from the jumpgate.

I found it, but got killed by pirates before I could save. Shouldn't have gone there in a Harrier, but my only other ship was a sector trader.

The Starburst can get INSANELY fast, but is it worth keeping just for that, since it has puny shields and no guns? I figure it would be brilliant for getting from A to B but I wanna be sure. And next time I manage to reach it in my Harrier, am I best to just fly the Starburst out of there myself and send the Harrier off on autopilot? Would it survive?
Also, what's this bout a free Mamba? What is it and how hard's that to get to?

So I got a script that allows you to hotwire extra shield energy into your ship from shield modules in the cargo bay at reduced gains per additional module added.

my buster has 47MJ of shielding and I still get raped in the ass 1vs1 with pirates.

Any way to increase the mouse speed in game? Cause its slow as molasses on a December day in Alaska trying to turn with the mouse to line up my pewpewpew

What are you fighting? If you're taking on Pirate Novas, don't take on Pirate Novas. Take on Falcons and M4s and M5s. Novas eat ships smaller than M3s for breakfast.

They're useful for flying around getting free ships. For example, there's no good Jumpgates around the Terrans, so your best bet is to use a Starburst or Arrow or Rapier (450km/s) to go get them and bring them back.

    Very very short.
You have to come in from the south side or "under" the Mamba to get it, all other routes are a trap.

It was hard as PISS in X3 Xtended Xtreme Start, because...

    1. I had a super shitty ship that couldn't do shit
    2. The Pirate sectors in Xtended are so overcrowded to be basically a joke.

Some of the Pirate sectors in X3:TC are the same, namely the general area where you got the Hyperion in X3:R -- I crashed to desktop after fighting my 2nd Galleon (M1) and 4th or 5th Pirate M7.

    BTW...

Am I the only one who finds playing in anything bigger than, say, a M3+ or M6 kinda boring?

My M7 is kinda MEH, especially when I'm trying to take out M5s -- they can't hurt me, I can't hit them. Maybe I should replace all my EMPCs with Starburst laser flak guns for anti-fighter stuff.

I hate to think what playing in a M1 is going to be like. Or is a M1 the sort of thing I'm supposed to fly into a sector, point at something big and angry, and go off doing something else myself?

My plan is a M6 Katana configured for anti-Cap ship use (Dagger in the Dark, already bought), and M1 or M2 configured for anti-Fighter/Cap (Thousand Swords at Dawn), with Transporters in both so I can teleport between the two.

From the sound of things, your problem stems from fact that you're playing Terran ships almost exclusively, which are for the most part are generally better than any other races' line of vessels by a long shot. Couple with the fact that their available weapons are fairly limited but completely omi-purpose, it's not hard to imagine why you're bored. Maybe it might do you so good to try out another races’ series of ships to make you appreciate what you have, like that old saying, to walk in another man’s ion engines for a few days.

Finally I have time to both play X3 and respond here....

To go way back to a post earlier about how you could hide in the nooks and crannies of cap ships and blast away at the hulls till they died, that reminded me so much of X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. There was an exploit when you were up against Imperial Star Destroyers (Or it might have been Victory Class), regardless, the cool thing for the time was that you could target individual components/weapons on cap ships. The ISD has a missile launcher right on it's nose that you could destroy with a few proton torpedo's.

But when you did that, and the missile launcher blew up, it actually created a hole in the geometry of the ISD model that was big enough to fly though! So you could fly inside the ISD where nothing could get you and then you'd just put all energy to lasers and fire away. You just had to make sure that you flew out of it before it blew up. Great way to raise your rank fast.

And back more on topic with X3...

So i started as an Argon Patriot in my elite. I was getting rocked pretty hard earlier on the count that all i had was the 10MJ shields and the 25s were no where to be found. I eventually did enough missions to get a Nova Raider L from Omicron Lyrie shipyards. And now i'm getting BBS missions ranging from 22,000K rewards to 1.2 mil!?

The only thing is that no matter the reward, it still seems to spawn ships that are way better than me. When i was in the Elite, and low combat ranking, there were a few M5, M4 and maybe an M3. (Pirate Nova's were tough). Now though, there is a fleet of M5, M4, M3's usually one M6, and two M8's. One on one, i can take them, but they swarm me and there's nothing i can do since i don't have a fleet of my own.

Are the spawns based on my Combat ranking? It's currently at Fighter Chief.

I just wish it was a bit more scaled to you. I like a challenge, the first Centaur battle was awesome, but when i get raped no matter what... especially with the Xenon's and their instant-hit, never-miss, can't dodge, orange blaster things... it's not that much fun.

There's also this Xenon Q just strolling around in Scale Plate Green that i do about 5% damage to his shields before I'm out of energy. I get the fact that as a fighter i shouldn't take out cap ships and that's fine, but then don't make them objectives when all i have is my fighter.

Also started a sector trader. Let him run around in Treasure Chest and he made it to level 3 before going on standby? So i moved him to PTNI headquarters and he did one run and is back on standby. How do i make him do the right thing?

Final question/comment (sorry, had alot to say), I'm not sure if I want to do the main campaign Terran missions until after I build up my fleet a bit more, but I would like to do some story missions instead of just defending a station against a million pirates. I noticed in Elysium's sector, the Goner ship there had a story mission blue book. Are there other campaigns for the other races/corporations that i can be a part of and do before the main Terran one?

This game is fantastic though, I like it alot better than X3R but it could use a little balancing. Or at least let me call in Argon military help, distress call or something.

Got that Mamba. Boy was I suprised to find out it was slower than the M5 I was using. Is the Mamba just that good, or do Harriers just suck that bad?

In any case once I've found a couple more ships I think I'll go Pirate hunting to raise rep with the Paranid. What should I steer clear of fighting?

Incidentally, four HEPTs strikes me now as a bad idea. Where did all my weapon energy go? Is there a particularly "good" combination of weapons to use on a Nova? I don't know anything about any of them, and really I only bought a Nova 'cause it was the first M3 I saw. :(

I go with 4x HEPT and 4 x PRG, course if your so tight about conserving energy, just change out the HEPTs with Energy Chainguns. They're the same things except they use ammo instead of energy.

Is it just me, or does it seem like equipment in general is in much shorter supply in TC than it was in X3R? I still can't decide between getting a Shrike as a mobile base holding off on capships until I secure more steady funding through UTs, or if I should just bit the bullet and get my Condor now. But either way, all the equipment docks I've run into have crap for selection, so I'm going to have to seriously hunt around in order to get any weapons or shielding.

And speaking of weapon management, I actually really like the ammo weapons in this. Ammo's got good availability for the most part, and not having to worry about energy supply lets you concentrate your fire. Plus, with all the pirates and Xenon I keep blasting, Banshee and Firelance missiles are basically free.

Is anyone else having any issues with UTs being completely useless? Like Im talking "sitting in a station on standby forever" useless. I dont know how many times I have restarted them to try kick them into life and they just sit there - definitely wasnt this bad in standard X3. So I've started building factories instead and making the ex-UTs into supply ships. They could have had an exciting life jumping around the universe buying shit making fortunes.. but no they fucked it up so now they are freighters - sucks to be them.

I mean the mercury super freighter, not the mammoth. Make sure you get the special command software so your UT dosnt lose its rank when you transfer it. Personally Id put your skilled UT in the super freighter, then send your regular mercury to find another trade software Mark 3 and start it as a ST again, the super freighters in Omicron Lyrae go for about 1.1mil iirc, for the fully loaded version.

Ok, so, Terran mission, what am I doing wrong here:
This is the mission where you have to take some teladanium to the secret military base in argon sector M184 or whatever. I grabbed one of my haulers, bought the teladanium, jumped over to Nathan's Voyage and proceeded over to the destination. When I go through the gate to the base sector, it starts the conversation about being cleared to dock at the station, but then gets interrupted by the "GTFO RESTRICTED SECTOR" line and then they start shooting me.

In theory, you're supposed to do an optional side-quest that makes the sector friendly.

In reality, you hop into a M3 or M4, shoot the one station that's NOT aggro, then wait for it to magically turn blue, fly out, and re-enter -- the defenders will despawn.
