I usually play games on normal if I've got the luxury of time to work through a particularly difficult part. Easy if it's one of the months where I know I'll end up keeping the system off more often than not and just want to be able to finish the game without forgetting the first half of the plot.

When people play on easy (or on any difficulty were they have only a small chance of losing) I complain pretty vocally and try to get them to up the difficulty level. I pretty much just play on hard now, even on games I've never played.
Shrug, I'm not vocal about it because that's a dick move. I do, however, encourage people like my little brother to try normal mode a shot when it seems like he's getting through easy mode levels easy as pie. Games are sometimes fun when they're balls easy, which is why god mode and Gameshark have been popular since gamers first existed, but one should at least try to refine skill with games that require it at different difficulties.

What I did was I blocked up their primary entrance with crates that were scattered all around the room, then set up turrets at all the other entrances. I think that triggered some kind of glitch, though. Only a few Combine even came at me, and when I cleared the crates away, there was only one Combine behind the shield there. Once I killed him, Alyx showed up.

in the one where you're in the narrow hallway with openings on both ends, you can pretty much just hide in one of the cabinets that the turrets come in and just put the turrets right in front of you, pointing down the hall, and just pick them back up if they fall over
