Teefs, Vancouver is great. I've half-lived there for years, and worked there all last summer. Downtown Vancouver is amazing, I'm not quite sure what Jim is talking about, unless he's talking about bum-town, which is nasty.
If you hate rain, either learn to love it, or don't come, as it rains all winter and spring long. The summer, however, makes up for it. Nice and hot, great beaches, great landmarks and places to visit, so many things to do.
