[UO] UO:Divinity - T2A Based Free Shard

MazerMazer Registered User regular
edited January 2008 in MMO Extravaganza
First of all, free shards are totally legal so I am not breaking the rules of these boards (read them)

Anyways, I was hoping I may possibly dig up some UO vets who are longing for the old days of UO. Before trammel, before ninjas, before insurance, before special moves, before bags of sending, before power scrolls, all that stupid shit that is in current day UO.

UO Divinity is a shard run by RunUO (they make the emulator that most freeshards use). It is based on the T2A era of UO (heal through poison, instahit, tank mages, no trammel etc.). The shard has been up for a year and a half, it started very strong (600+ online nightly hitting 800 at one point) but has slowly lost players.

However, over the past few months, the Divinity scripts have been updated for RunUO 2.0 (new version of the emulator). A lot of new features are being added in, and the shard will run at higher stability in order to support the higher populations that are expected. If anyone was a fan of IPY, the T2A freeshard that had 1000+ player averages back in 2004, this is the place to play. In fact, wtfman.com which launched IPY to glory is helping produce the shard now and they'll be backing the shard once 2.0 is totally ready.

Skillgain is relatively easy with combat/magery skills, but crafting/taming is rather difficult to complete in order to preserve the shard's economy. Several RP guilds are present there if that's your thing.

Screeny of recent action (yes, there are no mounts, amazing feature for PvP, PvM has been adjusted for this feature):

81200505jv7.jpg

Divinity has an automated event system for things like CTF, Bombing Run, 1v1 tourneys, group tourneys, FFA. Here's one from a CTF today:

43228255au2.jpg

Some OSI guilds that are on board for 2.0:

-S-
Bloodclan Orcs
GoD
SSJ
JoV
Covetous Crew
The Mercs
The Regulators
The Pluggers

Again, sorry if this doesn't belong here. I'm not trying to make a blatant attempt to advertise this shard. I'm offering 30K gold to new players who join up so hit me up if you do join (Have to stop offering gold after helping out around 40 people, sorry). The site has just been redone: www.uodivinity.com

Seriously guys, ditch the grindfest that is WoW and all the other gay similar ones that are out there now and play the game that started it all.

Thanks, hope to see you guys there :)

This UO ruleset was used back in like 98, so it is a pretty simple (yet amazingly fun) form of UO. The modern day UO is really fricking gay (you can be an elf, samurai, or ninja, for example).

It's very high-paced PvP and you can loot people's bodies freely. Makes for a lot of great rivalries between guilds.

Here's a view of shard population over the past year. We had 225 on last night which is a record for the shard since basically a few months after the original launch.

    http://connectuo.com/index.php?page=shards&do=graphs&id=1&days=365

You could be up and running there with ready chars within a week or two and you'll help keep the momentum up. Like I said earlier, wtfman.com which boosted another Pre:Ren freeshard (IPY) to glory with 1000+ player averages is backing Divinity 2.0

Give it a shot man :)

Didn't realize there was a thread for this--I just started, as well. I currently have nothing and suck horribly so I have nothing to report. Once my buddy and I get a house up...it's on.

How much room is still available for house placement, do you think? I've only ran around a little bit. Don't think I've seen any. :(

Tons of room for houses to be placed (actually room for castles as well, but they're super expensive). Right now, there are 1130 people online so it is gonna get tougher to put down large houses soon although I doubt you'll have problems to place smalls for at least a couple months.

Guys, this is the real deal. Been in some crazy blue vs. red fights the last couple of nights at Britain graveyard, like 10-20 random blues (mainly skeleton armor newbies) vs 10-20 man red guilds. So much fun.

Other old school guilds that have formed up again on Divinity:

    DsR
    SAS
    LoD
    LoC
    B&B

EDIT: Thought I should mention you can 'donate' to keep the shard running and in return you can get various items like skill balls or starter kits to get your character ready without having to macro if you're short on time.

Like I said, over 1100 on atm. Check it out.

The RunUO team has the best track record for running shards. Right now, they dominate all eras of basically with Hybrid (UO:R'ish), Demise (current EA stuff), and of course Divinity (T2A). The admins are very professional. There won't be another "Rixus" occurrence and we won't have an "Azaroth" dropping the shard b/c he's tired of the work required for it (if you played IPY, you'll know what I'm talking about).

We hit around 1250 yesterday :)

Well, my bud and I have our house now. Problem is...I'm trying to find a happy medium for money-making between ease, quantity, and safety. I estimate another week or two until I really get into the swing of things.

Managed to trick another friend into playing with us, too. With any luck I can get my brother and maybe one other friend to make a nice little group. Wonderful, wonderful UO.

Here is a good way to make money. I play on hybrid, but this works on any shard. The problem is spawn locations because it varies.

1.) make a new character--on a second account if it is allowed. Give them 50 in tailoring and whatever other skills you want.

2.) Find a place where sheep spawn. If your main character is a melee type, you can use this as a way to train up your melee skills. If not, I'd just use the tailor so you don't waste regs. Skin the sheep and collect the wool.

3.) once you have a good amount of wool go to a tailor shop and use the wool on a spinning wheel. This will yield yarn. Use the yarn on a loom and you will get bolts of cloth--you can then cut this into yards of cloth. Cut it again and you get an assload of bandages.

    4.) make fancy shirts

5.) sell the fancy shirts to the nearby tailor npc. You will be astonished how much gold this makes. If you are running razor you can set it up to do the spinning wheel and loom for you and watch tv while it goes.

About divinity--is it exactly like ipy was? by that i mean, can people get into your house and clean it out if you aren't careful? I remember people would set up tables around the doors in ipy to keep people out. I like playing a thief but on hybrid it is almost impossible. Not alot worth stealing--and it's hard to be nonchalant on a horse. But if you don't have a horse--welcome to being killed all the time.

My buddy tried that and said it didn't really work very well on here. I'm guessing cloth items don't go for much because you can just buy the cloth. I collected a bunch of leather for him and some of that stuff sold okay.

House looting is very possible. Lockdowns, but no secures. If a house doesn't have a good table/trash can setup, they are very susceptible to looting. Even with the setup, it can happen...but just be smart about it and there should be no worries. The problem I have is in getting my friends to be as paranoid about our house as I am. Heh

    EDIT:
On a sidenote, sheep pens are camped 24/7. It's insane.

most servers fancy shirts go for 20-25g a piece

On hybrid 90 wool = about 7k in gold. I think it'd be worth a try--except for the campers.

Finally found the sheep pens empty for a bit. Made enough wool for 20k+ before I got sickly bored. I need some music or something for this crap...

I'm at a terrible crossroads now. Do I use money to work on my characters or do I save away until I can get a tower? The land has to fill up SOME time. *Sigh* I want to actually play but I NEED a better house.

    Haha, congrats.

Been having a ton of fun lately. More guilds are fielding groups consistently so PvP is easy to find.

Here's a shot from the other night. We were setting up 2v2's at the duel pits when a group of 5 tried to get the jump on us. We were a little disorganized (weren't partied etc.) however we still managed to scatter the opposition:

Since you're using Razor, there is a tab for "Hotkeys" where you bind spells, targeting, skills, etc to certain keys and mouse buttons.

I like crafting things more than I like fighting people, and I never owned a house back in the day. Basically I want to get rich so I can fund myself into a PVP character for the first time.
