So I just got a WM6 phone. I have one for work, but this baby is mine, and I can do whatever I want to it. It is the HTC Touch.
Now, I am looking for some good apps to install/use on it. And it's difficult to weed through all the crap. So, PA community, what are some good apps for Windows Mobile that you use?
I've been playing with my Samsung i620 for about 2 months now. I tried a lot of apps, but the ones I kept were:
Facade - best home screen I tried
Agenda One - Great calendar/contacts replacement
Smartertasks - I'm a GTD devotee and this was the best GTD app for WM
Salling Clicker - Bluetooth remote control. I use it to run my desktop iTunes from the couch
AudioNotes - Every so often I need to take interviews for my undergrad work. And otherwise it makes a good voicerecorder
Resco Explorer - You'll have to go mucking through the device at some point. Use a good tool for it
Acolyte57 on
101 little bugs in the file / 101 little bugs / take one out and recompile / 102 little bugs in the file
I second Resco Explorer, the built in file navigation system has serious limitations, and resco is probably the best replacement out there.
You should also look into getting a PIM suite to replace the built in contancts/calendar/etc, I personally use pocket informant, but you should look around for what's best for what you use it for.
If you're buying the unlimited internet things, you probably will want to replace the browser, opera mini and PIE are both good options.
I honestly have no problem with the contacts/calendar in it. I have the calendary sync'd with my google calendar anyway(courtesy of OggSync), so on the device it's largely just for viewing, not creating.
I will definitely look into Resco.
it has Internet Explorer on it, which has given me no troubles on my work phone, and it's the same here. I tried Opera mini briefly, but honestly, didnt' like the interface. it felt cluttered compared to IE. I'll give it another try, but no promises.
The bluetooth remote thing sounds cool....if only my desktop had bluetooth.
Is there anything in particular that you want to do with it?
Minimo is a decent free web browser.
Google maps is excellent, especially if you have GPS; but it requires you to be online at all times. If you want to be able to access previously-viewed maps offline, use Virtual Earth Mobile.
Styletap is a Palm OS emulator, so you can install & run all the great apps developed for Palm devices.
For games, I suggest checking out Pop Cap's offerings, as well as Orions: Legend of Wizards and the expansion.
|EDIT| There are some remote control apps that work over Wi-Fi, including at least one good free one that I can't remember ATM.
You should definitely check out Pocket PC Mag's annual software awards: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/awards/main.asp -- you can see the winners & nominees from this year and last.
Actually, for interactive maps, at least for searching for places, I found that windows mobile live search (or something like that) is even more awesome than the WM google-maps app.
