Hey dudes, I'm engaged in a little modding project, I want to remove my stereo and fashion a standard audio jack input which I can wire back out the front of the stereo.
Unfortunately, I really suck at this whole stereo removal thing. I've been trying with some u-shaped hooks fashioned from a clotheshanger, but so far no luck.
Can anyone help me out? Also, I don't actually know what's behind the stereo, can anyone tell me what kind of electronics I'll be looking at?
Go down to AutoZone or Pep Boys and ask them for "Ford Radio Removal Tools" or "Ford DIN Tools." They'll sell you a couple pieces of bent wire of the appropriate shape and sturdiness for about $5.
When you pop it out, you'll likely find a big Molex connector coming out of the depths of your car with a dozen wires running into your radio. Maybe two.
Some stereos (not mine, unfortunately) have a line-in input on the back that I believe looks more-or-less like an ordinary audio jack. I may be wrong about this. If you don't have one of those, good luck to you. It may be easier to just buy a cheap new stereo with a line-in and a wire harness, which can be had for about $100 and $30, respectively.
Yeah, listen to the Doc and get a new stereo and harness (you might need an mounting adapter thingy too, which usually runs $40 or so but sometimes includes the wire harness). It's not worth the headache to re-use a stock radio. Plus, chances are the aux input you're looking for won't be present in a 2000 model (line-in for a CD changer maybe).
