I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm still incredibly excited about GTA IV. As most of us are probably aware, a new trailer entitled "Move up, ladies" is being released today at 3:00 EST. If experience tells us anything, the gaming side of the internet will pretty much melt at that time, so I'm launching this little preemptive strike in preperation for that moment. We can use this thread to talk about the trailer, previous trailers or even the GTA series in general.
GTA IV: Awesome time to the max
GTA IV is the latest installment in the long running series of roman numeral teaching Aid/forcible automobile-enthusiasm/heavy-handed empire building games. Notable for it's grand-scale, they have been instrumental in developing the idea of
"Sandbox" gameplay. Mind you, I've always been a bit confused about this. I've spent countless hours roaming the lands of GTA: San Andreas, and not once have I stumbled across a single sandbox, save the paltry beaches scattered here and there.
But back to GTA IV. New to the series is the idea of characters that don't animate like robots. Granted, cutscenes were fine, but the on foot gameplay has always looked a bit janky. According words coming from the mouths of developers, they are using the new Euphoria physics engine as a way to make the character move and react to the gameworld as if his body had real mass. Mass effects, if you will. Second on the new feature list is their revamped shooting engine. By all accounts it will play similar to Gears of War (which I guess means similar to RE4) so you can now zoom in tight to an over-the-shoulder view for accuracy and Great Justice, utilize cover and general look a hell-of-a-lot cooler than in GTA's of the past.
I'm going to continue to update this post with more exciting stuff, but frankly I'm a bit tired right now. As a compromise, here is a classic end-of-OP media dump!
