Sega updates and protects Dreamcast trademark... Dreamcast 2 anyone?
Rumor Is Sega Working On Dreamcast 2?
Back in August, Sega filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office to protect the Dreamcast trademark. Now their original filing is good until December of 2009, this new filing has added some new terms to the mix that are sparking speculation of a Dreamcast 2 being in the cards. From the filing:
home video game machines; player-operated electronic controllers for electronic video game machines; video game interactive controller, namely, hand held pads, and floor pads or mats; joysticks for video games; computer cursor control devices, namely, computer mouse; flash memory cards; video game software, computer game programs
While most of the devices listed could easily relate to the original Dreamcast, flash memory cards and floor mats were never a part of the company's machine. Could Sega be quietly getting ready to re-enter the console business?

Seamen 2: The Re-Seamening!
I cannot wait!
Speaking of which, reminds me of my old boss when I worked for EBgames. He got a call from some kid asking for Seamen and he hung up on the dude and unplugged the phone until we told him it was an actual game.
I miss those times.

Or it could just mean they don't want to pull a nintendo, let their patents lapse, and have a dozen knock off famicom systems and super famicom systems flooding the market and killing all collector value and the Wii's VC market.

Patents are not perpetual. They run out after a set time. You can't renew them.
They didn't file a patent at all. Title is totally false.
Title fixed.

I'd want nothing more. Honestly. I loved my Dreamcast until they stopped making games, and I still get use out of it.
But let's be honest with ourselves here, Sega making the Dreamcast 2 is highly unlikely. Their big title games have mostly gone to shit, and trying to edge themselves into the current console market (which will likely have the big three well into the next iteration) would be a stupider move than releasing at a half-generation point just before the PS2.

but would it be stupider than releasing a game about a 'darker' version of Sonic that wields a gun?

I'm afraid I can't compare in that case. That particular move is well beyond the limits of detection on my idiotometer.

Still wrong.
They updated the trademark which is completely and totally different from the patent.
Patents protect inventions, so the patent for the dreamcast would protect the actual inner workings of the machine.
Trademarks are names, so the trademarks to the dreamcast it the actual name "dreamcast" and the little swirly thing.
Title fixed again. O_o

Boy, last night my friends and I just blew the cobwebs off their Dreamcast for like the first time in six years to rock some Marvel vs. Capcom and Virtua Tennis, and as I sit here with my hands bent into unrecognizable, claw-like shapes and my wrists aching like motherfuckers, I finally begin to grasp why the system might not have done so hot.
Although, when fucking Mad Catz makes a more ergonomic controller than the first party one, you know something wrong happened somewhere.
(yes, I know the Mad Catz DC controller was bigger than the fucking Duke, but it's just so comfortable, even if the VMU and Jump Pack both fall out if the thing uses any rumble.)
I never had a problem with the Dreamcast controller
that I remember at least. It could have been so horrible I've blocked it out.
It was big. I don't exactly have large hands, but I didn't have a problem with it, though I know people who said they did. If I remember right, it was slightly larger than the original Xbox controller. The one designed for silverback gorillas instead of humans.
Guys, guys. . .of course they're making a Dreamcast 2. Any other console wouldn't be able to hold the sheer awesomitity of launch games Shenmue 3 and Marvel vs Capcom 3. I'm also hearing rumors of a NiGHTS 3, another Panzer Dragoon , and a remake (and reboot) of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, ditching all extraneous characters that are not Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik (Not Eggman), Metal Sonic, Amy and Shadow (Hey, there has to be bad news, too, right?)
Personally, I'm holding out hope for another Rival Schools.
I wish I could bathe in the ambiance of Seamen too...I mean 2.
The Seaman 2 boxart was made especially for you. In big letters on the front it says "DON'T PANIC!". I see it every time I go to the Yamada Denki and chuckle.
Didn't I just read this thread at NeoGAF? (like, identical comments, and everything. shit really confused me for a second.)
If you read the document, it's pretty clear that they are just updating their ownership of the name to prevent other people from using it on any of a variety of different items. They aren't planning on creating some kind of crazy system incorporating ALL of those features.
With the 360 having Xbox Originals, with game file sizes of 1GB upward, it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that they may launch a Dreamcast service. Now THAT would be a service I'd pay for. Especially if they do what they should have done with Originals and put in acheivements. Also, they could bring back the online favourites, like PSO and ChuChu Rocket! but with voice chat. And I can just see ChuChu having cam support so you can see the faces of your opponents as you direct several cats right into their rockets. Awesome.

And the VMU's used flash memory.

Sorry, Sega is never going to field another console. They make much more money making games for everyone else.

There is already a Seaman 2.
Seaman 3-Sum ?
I MUST HAVE THIS GAME.....
But I doubt it was ported to the US
I wish I could bathe in the ambiance of Seamen too...I mean 2.
games that didn't get released here in America (fuck yeah!) simply don't count.

Also the D-pad scraped up my thumb something fierce.
so the Sega crap would be concentrated on one console and we wouldn't have to see it.

Oh god that's good. Thread winnar!
Either that or Sega is planning some kind of silly DC relaunch (like the Nintendo iQue).
*Thanks Thanatos!
either one of these would be awesome.
One of by biggest fears is my DreamCast dieing one day and not being able to find another one.
