First Arcadia Battleships Forever Assault the Mothership
Rules
The mothership is attacking the Earth homeland. Your job is to build one of the 8 battleships that will attempt to defend Earth and save up from the Alien menace. There were also be an unlimited number of alternates, in case one player cannot submit his ship by the decided date, or in case we need more battleships to defend the Earth.
The movie is the only intel you have on the Alien Mothership.
Each player can spend up to 100 points on their entry.

The first task before you is to choose a ship class. This will affect all aspects of your ship, due to the variance in cost between the classes. These classes are Battleship, Cruiser, & Frigate.
Once you have chosen your ship’s class, it will dictate how you spend the points allotted for the tournament. Each faucet of the ship has a cost associated which is based upon the ships size.

While looking at the blank ship, set the Core’s HP to the Base HP value that appears in the column of the ship class you have chosen, and the Max Speed, Acceleration, and Turning to zero. From here you should decide how many points you plan to allocate to the basics of the ship.
You can spend as many points on these attributes and have as many sections as you can afford. As you buy sections, you should set their Custom HP to the value listed in the Sec.HP Base row so that you don’t forget to do it later. You may want to consider strategically beefing up certain sections, though in most cases it’s better to just add ablative sections meant to be lost.
Keep in mind, though, that you will have a set number of points, and no battle was ever won purely by defensive measures.
As far as AI goes, any AI can be selected and any AI Range set. Keep in mind that the AI Range is the distance your ship will try to keep between its core and the enemy’s, so it really should be no farther than your shortest ranged weapon. Though weapons mounted father back than the core will have their effective range reduced.
At this point, you’ve more than likely spent around half of the points, and hopefully have some idea what you want your killing machine to wield. Yet now comes the hard part. Where and how should you mount the instruments of your will?
Should you attempt to cover all angles of attack, or trust that your ship can turn fast enough to keep the opposition in its sights? Should you invest in your active defenses, or pour all your resources into firepower?

* You may only have 1 Aegis Deflector per 6 sections, not counting your core. They cannot be on the section they’re guarding. The ship will be ruled on. They may not be used with standard Deflector Shields.

Hopefully you’ve been able to fit all the kit you want onto your ship, and it is now ready to convert a few foes to a quickly expanding field of debris. At this point, if you’re happy with her, you should take a screenshot, upload the files, and submit her to the tournament.

Additional Rules:
Parenting
All ships must have logical parenting, modules must sit on the sections they are attached to and parented sections must touch.
While stacking sections and weapons is fine, it must be within reason. A section cannot be completely covered by another section, and a weapon\module cannot be completely covered by another weapon\module. However, weapon\modules may completely cover a section.
Ship cores must be default.
Shields
Deflectors are restricted to one per three sections and Aegis are restricted to one per six sections. Aegis'd sections may not cover more than 90 degrees when measured from the core. A ship may not have both deflectors and aegis.
An Aegis Shield may not completely cover one side of attack.
Weapons and Modules
Each section may parent at most two modules/weapons. All weapons must use their original arc. That is, weapons may no longer be expanded to 180 degrees in this tournament. No attributes may be changed for weapons or modules.

At its core, Battleships Forever is a top down RTS set in space based around ship-to-ship combat. All the staples are here: A variety of missles, beams, deflectors, etc. to attack and defend your own. Even more exciting is that each gun on each ship fires individually, and each part of each ship can be destroyed individually. (Just like Warning Forever, an obvious inspiration, especially in the graphics department.) So a ship can be made up of, i don't know 40 parts, each with its own attributes. You can, as an attacker, target each part individually as well.

The Results
The nanomatrix must be set a required amount of sections to power it, or frigates are going to dominate, I promise you- there is no reason to use a battleship with the weaponry (and more importantly, PD/defensive modules) costing the same for all ship classes.
My suggestion is to create a conceptual "Power Grid", where each section on a ship allows more weaponry to be mounted, similar to the restrictions on Aegis- if each section allows 4 points of equipment to be mounted, you won't find the frigate designs with 6 sections, 11 railguns and a nanomatrix that we're all going to come to hate. It adds an extra cost to equipment that is negligible for a battleship, but noticeable for a frigate- with this system a nanomatrix costs an effective 11.25 points on a battleship, and 15 on a frigate, for instance- and there is no way a frigate would be able to wield the defensive capabilities of a battleship without taking on extra cost, where the battleship would be thankful of the extra armor.
I'd like to see how the tournament works about, rather than trying to second guess everything. If you think frigates at max range with 11 railguns are going to be an issue, than build accordingly.
There certainly were no qualms about battleships dominating the first three tournaments, we aren't exactly taking a step back if frigates dominate this one.

It sounds like its a pretty big change, so I'd prefer if we use the old version for now, so that we can keep the costs as is.
I plan on running a couple of matches using both versions to figure out what needs to be changed cost wise.

Well, so long as it can be found and loaded by CMD, I guess I can live with the name being wrong.
Well, I expect we'll get a couple last minute entries, but overall it seems that interest has waned. Theres a couple options from here:
1. Drop it for a while, start it up later when its fresh to people.
2. Create a website dedicated for it, as a practice for learning my PHPs, spread it around the interwebs and hope for the best.
3. Something else

the Abomination is ready. 8-) It's either going to completely and utterly STEAMROLL things or waddle around dying. Boasting 8 quad blasters, 2 megatachs, and 5 plasma charges, plus some nifty-looking ablative spikes- well, it's death. My only regret is that I had to install a front aegis plate to prevent lancets from completely neutering it, otherwise I would quite happily have added 8 more points worth of spiky armor. Looks fantastic.

I look forward to the frigate challengers... I couldn't stomach making a mini-ship, it just felt unwholesome.
Just for fun I put a 3v3 together between my 3 of my ship and 3 of Alan's. It was quite entertaining.
1v1, not so much, lot slower and a pretty close match at the end. But 3v3...

That said, I fear Gluon bolters may be under-priced, and will likely be increased in the next tourney, if there is another one.
I was meaning to make a Frigate, but in essence I just ended up typing out the point makeup without the movement costs (i.e. just weapons/modules and sections) and I ended up favouring Cruiser the best. Actually, I think that Cruiser is pretty much the best all around.

EDIT: Since I didn't get any entires with Demeter Pod Launchers, consider them banned for late entries. Currently they're underpriced and completely wreck cruisers, and with the higher priced point defense they're just ridiculous.
