Grandpa's Senseless Ramblings...

Is it just me or were a number of Gabes Grandpa's ideas inherently flawed?

I mean I had no problem, and even developed a sort of rapport, with what the man had to say. That is until he proclaimed [regarding the atomic bomb]...

" I thought it was kind of bad in a way. Good and bad both. It helped bring the end of the war, but also killed an awful lot of people."

Hmmmm.No.Simply no.The war was over. The Japanese had no defences left, Germany had surrendered when the bomb was dropped, hence Japan had no leg to stand on.There was a single nation could hold out against the rest of teh world. There was no need for nuclear detonation.

Oh well.Once a soldier,always a soldier.I'm sorry,I mean Patriot.

Also re:Videogames he states...

"if it’s just people shooting one another, I don’t think it’s a proper thing for young people to do. I think it sets a bad example for them, because they get into the mood of doing that, and that begins their lifestyle"

It seems to me that by printing this Penny Arcade are, if you'll pardon the expression, shooting themselves in the foot.Gamers don't want to hear untruths like this because some people in teh media are stupid enough to see this same view.If one is psychotic then no amount of "Barbie in Fairyland:The game" will make them normal. So why does it always work the other way?

And here I was thinking that Penny Arcade were against this world view...

More fool me apparently.

FYI, you're supposed to put a space after some kinds of punctuation, for example, commas (","), periods (".") and colons (":")

I hope we've all learned something here today.

Okay, Essentially you guys want to know my motivations for posting. Understandably so.

Here goes, are you guys ready for this?... I hate Idiocy. And narrow-mindedness. Unfortunately sometimes that is the American way and when it is cloaked by Patriocy, the crime is made all the more foul.

I am a harbinger of the open mind who will not stand by and allow peoples minds to be poisoned by drivel.

Maybe you could try D&D. Really, all you'll get here is mockery and possibly one or two on-topic posts.

I'm willing to try and enage the mind of the simple folk.

Mockery is the weapon of choice for those that cannot comprehend what is staring them blatantly in the face.

And what do you think I am? Don't hold back now.

    Allright, here we go.

    The bomb was justified.

Why? Hirohito refused to surrender unconditionally until the seconds bomb had hit. Until then, he either wanted to remain as Emperor or there was no deal. Thus, Japan had to be defeated.

There were three ways to do this. There was the blockade, which was occuring at the time, and which would have killed hundreds of thousands over several years. Hardly an ideal choice.

Then there was Operation Olympic, the invasion of Japan. Based on which troops they used, the DoD came up with a conservative estimate of more than 100,000 allied casualties - and that's just the ground troops. That doesn't include the air force or navy, or the Japanese.

The third way was the A-Bomb. It was designed to destroy, yes, but it's main aim was to force a surrender, which it did, at a fraction of the human cost of the other two choices.

Well If Fire-Fox says it not then it has to be true...

Theres a difference between Dropping a bomb on Hundreds of thousands of civilians going about their daily grind and being a soldier.

As a soldier, you would know that you're putting your life on the line, that there is a large chance that you will die. Better those that want to die than those that don't.
