[SOLVED] Downloaded Deus Ex Collection from Steam - Having performance issues

I had a recent craving for some Deus Ex goodness. Having lost my CD long ago I decided to download both of them through Steam.

As soon as Deus Ex had finished downloading I started it up and everything was very jumpy. According to FRAPS it's running at a completely solid 60fps but it still seems to jump awkwardly. It's like it just completely skips tiny parts of the game. For example, running across a room will take three seconds normally; with my issue that seems to take one second. I just sort of appear on the other side of the room.

I've never had this problem with any other game.

I tried to capture the problem with FRAPS but it doesn't show up when I do that.

Any tips onto what might be causing this?

Edit: I started it up again and now everything runs in slow motion... like bullet time. The game now also doesn't recognise my mouse or keyboard, so all I can do is watch the Eidos and Ion Storm logos slowly float by and then stare at the gradually rotating Deus Ex symbol.

I'm guessing it's a problem with my computer being TOO new for such an old game; my specs are:

Intel Core2Duo 2.16GHz processor
Nvidia 7300GT 128mb graphics card
1GB of RAM

I'm running the game on max everything at 1600x1200 resolution.

Try everything on low, just to see if that gets it running.

Force it to run on a single core, it's the first troubleshooting step you should do with older games on dual core computers, I think.

Ah, that did it! The game runs beautifully now.

    Thank you for your help.

Yeah, I had the same problem, which sucked. Unchecking the second CPU box worked fine. Thanks so much.
