Setup.exe broken- what do I do now?

I recently had to reinstall Battlefield 2142, as their 1.40 patch is all messed up and needs to be repatched. So I uninstalled the base game, but when trying to reinstall, the autorun installer doesn't do anything. I open the disc and try to run setup.exe, and it tells me there's an error and it needs to be closed.

Is there anything I can do?

I tried deleting the old registries. No good.

Edit: and of course now it works.
