Yesterday my macbook simply would not put any sound through the headphone jack. It worked fine the day before and the normal speakers on the macbook still function. Sometimes when I plug the headphones in, they make that sorta click when you sometimes get when you plug any headphones into something, like it's receiving power but no sound. (did that make any sense at all?). I've tried different headphones and it is definitely not those, it's the macbook. Is there any setting I might have unwittingly changed that would make the audio output jack not work? Thanks h/a!
Stupid question: Have you tried turning up the volume? Mac OS X remembers the volume when the headphones are in, and when they are out, and switches between them.
Well, I did not know that the macbook remembers different volumes levels so I thought that could be it, but a quick test just know proves it's not that. So still no solution. Thanks for the help though.
So when you adjust volume with the keys, is any sound coming out, like the little boops of the volume changing? Any kind of sound at all? You can check your Audio preferences in the system preferences and make sure those volumes are proper.

With headphones in there is no little boop, through the headphones or macbook speakers. With no headphones there is a little boop from the normal speakers. I checked the system preferences and everything appears fine.
