Yeah, that's been my growing reaction since I first heard about it. My honest initial reaction back then was "Oh.. how sad, I'm almost embarrassed for them" because it sounded like they were doing a "ME TOO!" on Crysis. Then the more I see about it, and how they're distancing themselves from tropical islands and trigens and crap like that, and then see what they're actually doing with the engine and world.. if a game convinces me to build a new PC it'll be this, and not Crysis.
It seems weird having that new jeep liberty in it. I'm fine with ingame advertising that makes sense, and I'm not gonna say that there wouldn't be a brand new jeep liberty in africa, but something about it just throws me off.
I can put up with Ubisoft's Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep obsession in Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell, but this seems pushing it a bit to me. Especially since in the first screenshot of it posted here it looked like an old rusty car, but was still recognizable as a 2008 Jeep Liberty in terms of shape and details.
Good song in that trailer. I wish I could make that sound with my mouth, I'd do it all the time.
It's like motorboating but without the boobs.
Also, this looks shit hot. I can see why people would compare it to Crysis because it's also gorgeous but I'm glad they've moved away from the tropical islands and into the African savanna with this. It's very pretty and parts of it (like that one part with the huge bridge above them?) look totally fucking amazing.

The noise is catchy. Have it in my head but I can't replicate it, driving me batty.
The Jackal is coming!

It's from the Black Hawk Down soundtrack, and I must say, fits it perfectly :winky:

Really? i didn't recognize it at first, but i guess you're right, i always loved the music and SFX in that movie.
Yeah I'm not splitting hairs or going to try and pin it down to the right Ugandan tribe or anything. I'm honestly not that fussed where it came from, it works just fine with the trailer in hand.

It isn't a difficult sound to make, he's just rolling an R. Anyone who speaks french can do it, so it isn't a rare ability.
Yeah, they said no Trigens in Crysis, and gave you aliens instead. That was CryTek, this is Ubisoft. They've said something to the tune of "there are no supernatural enemies at all", so that would include trigens, aliens or whatever else you care to imagine.
Eh. I like the Trigens. But then again I didn't feel the game had to stick to the same cliche movie genre the entire time and liked as it went from spy movie to action movie to to horror movie and back to action movie. It gave a real feeling of progression.
I liked the Jurassic Park feel when you first realise what's going on and see the fences down. Then when you learn that they're both quick, hard to kill, and can kill you in two hits (where they always get the first in because of points 1 and 2), suddenly both your patience and the quicksave/load keys wear very thin.

Maybe i just kicked too much ass at Far Cry.
Anyone kicks ass at Far Cry when they play on "I'm a pretty little girl in a big frilly dress" difficulty.

The highest difficulty is "I'm a pretty little girl in a big frilly dress"?

Although I want both.

I was thinking more tribal African-y but YMMV.
Ding Ding!!!! We have a winner. Its more Farsi sounding than Arabic to be honest. But really, who cares? It goes bloody well with the trailer.
Well played.
West Africa is where we get the more "traditional" african sounds which has a more French slant to it.
Not a great example, but good enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZ0pifd6aE0
This is a Mali group but has a Spanish pop singer with them
Real E.G. listen link at the bottom, 3 hours of African Music(every Monday)
is big
You will have to wait about 1 minute for the intro.
edit: Basically the music is more Arab and not "African" as we think of it.
Which would fit more or less since the game doesn't take place in Africa.
It's a fictional island with extremely similar environments and fauna to sub-Sahara Africa.

Also I have went back and forth a lot about this game, but the sandboxy nature I've heard about has nailed it onto my must-have list.
They said they looked at what people liked in Far Cry and kept that and took out what people didn't like, so I assume not.

No, they've said there is none of that.
Didn't they say that for Crysis as well?
This isn't being made by the Crysis developer, is it?
Edit: It isn't:

It's a different "they", but yes.
Except for the whole part that the aliens were the first thing they showed of crysis
