speakers

Hey, I got a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop in August for college, and I have enjoyed it greatly, but there is one problem: the speakers on it suck. I was going to ask for some speakers for it for Christmas, but I have no idea where to start. Can anyone give me some advice as to which speakers would be good? The price range is probably around $50-$75.

Thanks

How are you going to use the speakers? Where? How much room do you have? What are you going to play on these speakers?

The answer to these questions will tell us whether we need to recommend a 2.0, 2.1, 4.1 or 5.1 kit. For example, if you're only going to play music and watch the occasional Youtube video, a cheap (10-20$) pair of 2.0 multimedia speakers might be enough, especially if you're in a dorm where a subwoofer might be annoying to the people you'll be living with.

If you're going to be playing games and/or watching DVDs, and your laptop supports 4.1 or 5.1 output, you might prefer that sort of thing.

Regardless, you usually can't go wrong with Logitech speakers. There are other good brands, but these past few years, I've had a chance to experience the quality of many of their speaker sets, and the quality was always high. If there are demo units where you plan to make your purchase, bring an mp3 player with some of the songs you know by heart, and ask to play them over the speakers. That's one of the best ways to judge the sound quality, since you know all the nuances of each song, so you'll be able to know if the speakers aren't properly reproducing the sound.
