Not sure if anyone noticed that Best Buy is having a big sale on the 8800GT's. It's the BFG version, with a lifetime warranty. I picked one up today myself, and there were 4 on the shelf.
Also: If anyone was a part of that Dell deal where we got it for $221, be aware that there are reports that Dell is going to start canceling orders due to the high demand of the product. I haven't got a cancellation notice on mine yet, but I wasn't taking the chance.

Updated the title to prevent further confusion.
Hopefully this gets someone's attention.
This one is better. BFG offers 24/7 tech support and lifetime warranties.
Yeah that's the one I was talking about. Apparently they have been canceling orders on those graphics cards for a few days. As soon as I found out about that, I had to jump on this one.
edit: Wow, I decided to order one right after posting this. It looks like my order has been successful. Now it appears it's sold out!

You got the GTS. The 8800GT is about 8 months newer and performs about on par with the 640MB GTS, at a much better price. It's a pretty amazing card for the price point.
It's alright Mista, we still love ya.
Mine was delayed to 12/17, but I'm betting it never ships.
If anyone still trusts Dell after the MSI 8800 fiasco, they have an Asus 800GT for $240 (edit: that doesn't ship for 3 months. Thanks bbmartini, I missed that) here. Free shipping + tax (if you live in a state Dell Home charges tax in). Comes with Company of Heroes Opposing Fronts.
Onsale.com has a PNY version for $240 here. You have to send in a mail in rebate to get your shipping charge reimbursed.
Yes, I know Asus and PNY aren't BFG. The BFG is sold out online, however, and for me not in stock anywhere within 50 miles.
Est. Ship Date: 3/13/2008
i just called and canceled
edit: Mr. Alan Del Castillo was very helpful in my order cancelation
Besides I'd need a new motherboard first. :P
Don't feel bad, my e-peen suffered a bigger blow when Nvidia launched the Ultra line and my GTX 768MB was no longer king of the hill.

The Ultra is like the most worthless model of G80 line, and is an icon of the utter insanity that is super-highend "enthusiast" market. Completely identical to the GTX, just clocked higher; you can pretty much just OC a GTX to Ultra speeds easily. All at a price that was originally double that of the already-super-expensive GTX. Patently ridiculous.
Not that it matters since there's no reason to get anything other than the GT if you're going 8800. Killer performance at relatively sane prices.
Actaully I think it preforms quite a bit better, not to sure looked at some benchmarks about 2 weeks ago and I seem to remember quite a jump in performance. However they just re-released the 8800gts and that new model is ahead of the 8800gt, i would assume. I got my 8800gt through evga's step up program, i bought a 8600gt with the sole purpose of stepping up to the 8800gt :P it came to like $189.00 cause the 8600gt had a 40 dollard rebate. it was pretty slick
I'm about to test UT3, wish me luck.
fuck
they are so much cheaper
I need to kill someone or hope they get more!
I bought an eVGA 8800GTS, but I'm not eligible to step up because I'm a retard who forgot to register it within the alotted time period.
However, they will be quite a bit more expensive, and only marginally faster:

Hopefully the G92 would be cooler so that would allow better overclocking headroom but thats just wild speculation.
I don't think I'll cancel the Dell order, though -- I did some poor research on video cards when I built my girlfriend's PC in August, and this would make for a nice replacement.

Yeah I'm keeping mine as well. I'll either sell it to a friend for the same amount, or spit it on eBay. Enjoy the card, sir. It's a beast.
He charged me for the $40 nightly shipping
Much better is an overstatement: for current games, the main appreciable difference between the 640MB GTS and the 512MB GT is that you're getting top-shelf performance for like $100 less with the GT.
The benchmarks I've seen puts it decently ahead of the 320MB GTS, and only marginally ahead of the 640MB.
At most it's like a 5-10FPS difference, when you're already in the 30+ FPS range. It's not a big deal. Unless you're made of money there's no real reason to replace a GTS with a GT at full price, you're better off saving your money for whenever the 9000 series comes out.
Edit: and reading about the G92 GTS, if cooling is an issue it looks like the GT runs much hotter, so there's a consideration if you're trying to overclock heavily, if your PC case has poor cooling, or if you're trying to run as silent as possible.
Also: If anyone wants my 8800GT that I bought less than a week ago, please shoot me a PM. The price of the card is $253.46, but if you sent me $250 I'll take that, and I'll ship it to you for free. I can go back to Best Buy to return this card, but if anyone here will actually USE it, I'd hate to return it. If I don't get a PM by the end of the workday (5pm EST) I'm just going to return the card to Best Buy... I'd hate to go there anytime after Christmas... That return line is crazy!
