The makers of rockband have pretty much confirmed that there will be a Wii version.

Every time someone asks about Rock Band on Wii, the typical response is:

"Well, just wait. We can't say anything. Except. Wait."

My guess is that they themselves are waiting on Nintendo to get Wii Ware up and running so that they can implement a downloadable service for new Rock Band stuff. Once that gets sorted out, I expect a Rock Band Wii to be announced.

In case you didn't hear, though, the PS2 version of Rock Band is coming out this week and it's apparently scaled down quite a bit from the 360/PS3 versions. No customizable characters, DLC or real Band World Tour mode as it exists in the other games (with fans, stadiums, setlists, etc.). Plus HMX sanctioned the project but they didn't helm the actual thing, so it's somewhat of a port. It will be interesting to see, if they choose to go with a Wii version, which one they end up using as a basis.

Do they seriously want to throw Rock Band under the Guitar Hero bus? Low shipments during a huge holiday season. Not supporting all consoles. Only comes with the entire bundle. It doesn't seem like Harmonix knows how to compete against their former product at all.

Look like 10 posts up. Basically, they had no choice. Something had to be cut. And honestly, customizable characters is probably the first thing I'd cut.

Of course they had a choice. It's the same thing that most developers come down to. Do we release, or do we wait a month to make sure everything is ready?

We know which one they chose. I just don't see why the 360/PS3 version wasn't pushed back to December, with the PS2 version pushed back further, since it's been gimped and isn't a representation of the entire game. If they had the marketing dollar behind it, and had the game available, and played up the "NEW GAME FROM THE CREATORS OF GUITAR HERO!!!" they could have competed and possibly have been THE go to game for the genre. Now? Not so much. They were in a bad position, for sure, but I think MTV went with immediate satisfaction of getting whatever sales they could through the holiday instead of spending a bit more time and money on it to pay off in the long run.
While the bulk of the porting work was done by *sorry, not released yet*, it is still very much a Harmonix product. There is absolutely no freakin' way you are going to see the same exact thing on the PS2 that you see on the 360/PS3. Platform design/limitations/etc mandate changes and Harmonix, like anyone else, has to adjust the design to accommodate.

We made a certain set of choices in order to deliver a game that is still awesome, and those that do not want to purchase a new console still have the opportunity to play some kick-ass Rock Band. The alternative is to not do PS2 at all.

I don't see how those choices require you to leave out game modes like World Tour or character customization. Graphical hitches? Yes. Entire game modes? No way.

So I did the math for something I heard earlier

A minute has sixty seconds in it

An hour has sixty minutes or 3600 seconds in it

A day thus has 24 hours or 86400 seconds in it

Thus the 4-week NPD reporting period had 2,419,200 seconds in it

If I am doing my math right

That means that during the reporting period a Nintendo DS sold in America roughly once every 1.6 seconds.

A little three-year-old dual-screened handheld is selling like that

I think this is rather unprecedented

Also I do like the software spread, although both of the PS3 top tens playing second fiddle to the X360 releases of the games does not bode well for Sony.

My last minute predictions from the other thread:

    Assassin's Creed 1 million NPD.

Nintendo DS 2 million NPD X

AC to outsell Galaxy also. X

    Ps3 less than 500k.

    360 800k

    Wii 1.5 million X

    Mass Effect 400k

    Halo 3 still up there.

Games I predict that will bomb? maybe uncharted

other talking points: some ludicrous non game in the top 10 like DS speech therapy or something stupid. (Wii play just for the controller)

PSP sales up loads too i expect.

    ack, I'm here now guys!

So, it looks like a 3:1 may become a standard figure for a while, for 360/PS3 software multiplat

    A's Creed? 3:1
    COD4? 3:1
    Rock band? 3:1

I think GH3 was at least 3:1, since the PS3 vsn didn't crack top 10..
    and I think Madden/EA stuff is usually a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio..

Anywya, So the DS did amazing.
