Help with connection

I'm having a problem; my internet connection on my pc will all of the sudden just crap out. I have to completely restart my computer and un-plug and plug the modem back in. My i.p settings are correct and such, my modem is still giving connection as I can get on xbox live. It happens about every hour. Anyone have any solutions?

Edit: Forgot to add something: whenever I'm already connected on a game whenever it goes out, lets say starcraft, I can still play online without problems.

    It's cable.

Hmmmm, the way that existing connections continue make me think it is perhaps a firewall problem. I'd try to disable that for a short time and see if it helps. Otherwise maybe some kind of NAT problem? Don't really know much about windows networking. I hope others can lend you a hand.
