'Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth' is fantastic
If lasting a long time is the most important criteria, I have lost days to playing Alpha Centauri, if you want something to utilise your rig a little more, I imagine CivIV is the same.
STALKER fits the criteria, and with the added bonus that if your rig can play high res/detail+ full dynamic lighting I will come to your house and blow you.

It's not that STALKER is the best-looking game, it's just someone left the instruction to divide by 0 at the end of every line.
Excellent game though, if you can get into it.
Also X3, another one if you have lots of time and patience and wish to build up an empire in space.
I can't think if it's got any longer title, but yeah, it's known as X3. It's a space sim thing (ever played Frontier/Elite or Freelancer?), but about as user-friendly as a polar bear, and a learning curve that doubles back on itself (so I hear, I've played X2 and found it to be just that). BUT, there is meant to be a very good community of people that will help, some very good forums and guides, and there is a thread on it here as well, which I'm just trying to look up.
I need a very time consuming and addictive game that could hold me for a long long time.
That is Offline
Grant me wisdom
Any genre, any style, just show me the games.
EDIT: I probably should have added that I do infact want something to slap my rig and call it a bitch.
Galactic Civilizations II? As long as you order the disc based version, you're set. Pretty good 4X game, and like most games of it's type, games can last for a long time.

That's more likely to watch his rig while it sleeps at night, though. Then write a poem about how beautiful it is.
Oh sweet Jesus good luck. The game is bug infested. I had to put it away because it was so bad. This is coming from someone who plays Hellgate without a problem.

I am happy to see someone listening to my advice and giving STALKER a go...
but yeah. Personally I absolutely loved the game but it varies from slightly to very broken. If you are the type that needs the game to come to you, then maybe try something else.
Gears of War is a great way to kill a weekend... Bioshock if you can run it. Medieval 2 Total war is alot of fun. Civilization 4 to kill a weekend as well.
MistaCreepy on
PS3: MistaCreepy::Steam: MistaCreepy::360: Dead and I don't feel like paying to fix it.
True. I don't have much of a problem with STALKER, except that it's bug ridden to hell. But people sit there and shit on Hellgate for having so many bugs, then turn around and recommend STALKER for being such a great game.
Don't just stand there, come in! Don't just stand there, come in! Don't just stand there, come in! etc...
It's a PC rpg/action game that plays in the vein of Zelda, but actually predates it by almost 4 years. A couple of years ago, they went and remade it for modern PCs with pretty gorgeous high resolution art (what you see above). It comes in two flavors - Ys Complete and Ys Eternal, but they're both basically the same game. Unlike games like diablo, you don't really have to play with a mouse. Nor do you click to attack. This is a game meant to be played with a keyboard, a gamepad, or a mouse. It's the closest PC game out there to a jrpg or zelda game. And it's fucking AWESOME. I cannot recommend this enough.
It's import only, so you'll have to buy through an import site like so:
However, once you pick it up, there is a fantastic fan translation patch that's been floating around for years now. It patches the entire game to be in english, even changing the FMV sequences to have your choice of subtitles or dubbing.
Oh, and it has probably the greatest sound track in the history of PC games. If you like castlevania synth rock, Ys is for you. Here's the opening FMVs... they contain only very slight spoilers which won't really ruin the game for you:
The games were ported to the PC Engine (turbo grafx CD) back in the early 90's, and I am more than positive that those ports will come to the Wii very soon (they're already out in japan I believe), but the PC updates are a thousand times better. Ys I & II complete (or eternal) are the best versions available.
for comparison's sake, here's the same opening I posted above, but on the Turbo Grafx CD:
The best PC game is Civilization IV. It will absorb the rest of your life if you want it to.
Agreed, I just beat Monarch, thats difficulty 7 with a diplomatic victory. Those of you who have played CIV IV know what a great accomplishment that is, furthermore, how long it took to achieve the goal. There are so many tricks and quirks to that game is mind blowing. You can micro-manage into oblivion, or you can just skate through with autonomous systems. There are so many styles of play to attempt on so many different map setups.
some great games that you can pump serious amounts of time into (though none are particularly rig bitch slapping)
Galactic Civilizations 2
Civilization 4
Europa Universalis 3
Massive Assault (whatever version theyre up to now, i dont know)
Ultima V Lazarus
Jagged Alliance 2
Silent Storm
Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines

Great calls Add Hearts of Iron 2 to that.
HOI 2 took years off of my life. Years later I can still fire it up and kill an entire week or two.

I play Hellgate on Very high for all settings.
Including AA
No skips in Frame rate
Is that good?
8800gt ftw?
Excellent game though, if you can get into it.

And thy lord said:
"Let my people have DOOM in 1080p!" and so it was done.
Is that the full name?
All I can think is "X-men 3"
Does not bode well.

X3: Reunion, apparently. And it's available on Steam (like so many other awesome games).
And if you haven't played HL2 yet, get Orange Box. That will keep you quite busy for a while.
It looks like stalker for me.

And TSR, what's the difference between Ys Eternal and Ys Complete?
From the sounds of it, I'd guess only one of them has an ending.
