Advice on purchasing an electric razor

The story goes like this:

My boyfriend is awesome and really needs or wants for little, making him virtually impossible to shop for. There are, however, little things that he never gets done for himself, giving me a tiny gift window to make use of.

The biggest thing I've noticed that he could really use is a new electric razor. He shaves at his computer, or in his car, or any time he's in a hurry, basically.. and his old one is getting to that point. He actually doesn't like using non-powered razors, so I don't even need to think about that.

I've never had to buy one and I want to get him something really nice and preferably self-cleaning ( don't think he does it often enough).. I also need to consider that it will go places and will probably be dropped once or twice, so portability and good durability are pretty important, but he'll still want a close shave.

Does anyone have any advice? What am I looking at having to spend? My upper limit is around $150 for this, and I have no experience with the different brands or even the concept, as he's the first person I've known to use one.

Thanks for any advice!

Generally there is Philips with the 3 circular heads arranged in a triangular pattern, and there is Braun, which is more of a ... hill shape that you press the top of which to your face.

You can spend a lot more on the higher models for things like LED indicators and such, but those arent necessary. The 8000 series from Braun is very good, Activator or something I think the line is called.

The self cleaning ones from Braun are nice and seem to do a decent job.

If you don't get a self cleaning one, get a waterproof one. Then you can dunk it in running water, give it a shake and it's clean. Mines a Braun, I love it. Although the new one with it's sexy neck abilities looks pretty cool, I know nothing beyond what TV has told be about it.

Cleaning the old school ones is a pain in the ass it always took me longer to clean it, then shave "manually".

This Norelco one is my current electric razor (yes, I'm a lazy-ass grad student and don't use a real razor), and I've been pretty happy with it... so you won't have trouble getting at least a decent one for ~100
