Taking the Xbox 360 wireless

Do you folks have any good recommendations on how to take the Xbox 360 wireless without having to drop $100 on MS's wireless accessory? I'm a tad miffed about what I imagine is a 200% markup on fairly rudimentary technology at this point.

I've heard stuff about wireless bridging or connecting through a wireless laptop but only in passing, and nothing sounded particularly convincing.

Obviously, cost, more than anything, is the issue here.

P.S. Running 40 feet of ethernet cable is also out of the question.

Thanks!

If you have a laptop with wireless internet connect up your 360 to that with a 2 inch ethernet cable and use your laptop as a router.

if you dont have a laptop then i guess dropping a hundred is unfortunately the only way to go. but dont complain, thats still miles cheaper than what i would pay for it, if that makes you feel any better.

There are other solutions for maybe a few $ less but really your best bet is a used wireless 360 adapter.

How about one of them generic brand (in this case like linksys) gaming wireless adapters? Those work for you?

Go to Circuit City and get an Xbox Play Link. Original price $80 (some boxes still have the $79.99 price tag on it, too), but it's now $20. It's its own wireless connection, with rj-45s on both ends. So plug one in into a router/connection, and the other end into anything. Works on any console with a network port, computers, etc. I bought one for my 360, but my dad stole it for the garage PC because the wireless card in there has been pretty shitty. So I bought a second play link and they both work fine together.

If you cant find that old xbox wireless, look into the dd-wrt firmware, I just did this. Basically buy a cheap router (theres a compatibility list) and reflashed it, now my $20 router from fry's works like a wireless bridge.

I used my Macbook for quite some time, to some success. You still need to deal with a sub-par connection. Unfortunately Leopard has done something to my network settings and my 360 can never pass the DNS test. So I suppose laptops work, but the lag I get in COD4 is almost unbearable.

I have this, you need to know that hosting games will make everyone else lag. I didn't host games in CoD4 because of this, but I have my connection wired right now making it work fine. It will work fine if you are connecting to others, but hosting the games is not so good, if CoD4 had better net code I imagine this would not be a problem since Live games don't normally pick shitty hosts, but keep it in mind.

I am looking into this too. Does the Airport Express work as well as the official xbox adapter? streaming music sounds good.

Couldn't the same be said of all wireless connections? :|
