Did a quick search, but given how bad my luck has been in the past week forgive me if this was already linked or posted.
I really liked the original Saints Row, and the multiplayer mode kicked all kinds of ass when it worked. The addition of Co-op to the single player campaign ala Crackdown should really spice things up.
I wonder if this could be any competition to GTA? I know alot of the multiplayer whores out there (ie. me) would much rather play through a co-op campaign that do it all by their lonesomes.
New details have piled in on THQ sequel to Saint's Row, which is heading to Xbox 360 and PS3 next year.
According to the latest mag previews, Saint's Row 2 is set to feature a city 45 percent larger than the Xbox 360 original, with new vehicles including motorbikes, jet-skis and speedboats. So far, so GTA.
What's new though is the introduction of aircraft such as planes and helicopters, which excitingly you can smash right through buildings. You can't destroy buildings entirely (we don't think the US censors would be happy with that), but smashing through windows should open up plenty of gameplay opportunities.
Hostages can now be taken and used as human shields, weapons can be dual-wielded and you can rip things out of the environment and use them as melee weapons.
Character customisation has also been enhanced with the option to tweak your characters sex; male, female or whatever's in-between. Transsexual gangsters are well on the agenda.
The most exciting feature of the sequel though, and probably the only real reason you should divert your excitement from GTA IV, is the promise of a full-on Crackdown-style co-op mode allowing you to play through the single-player campaign with a comrade.
Considering how brilliant Crackdown co-op was, this feature could be crucial. We'll let you know how it turns out.
I think I played Crackdown co-op all of 3 times despite it being one of my main reasons for getting it. I'm not sure co-op is that big of a draw for me anymore.
What??? Crackdown co-op was the sex! I have no ideas what you guys are talking about. Besides, Crackdown doesn't have split screen.
Anyway, this is good news as I really enjoyed the first SR, if only to chuck grenades at civilans and make them run into the street to get hit by speeding cars. Or, climb on the front of a semi truck on the high way and unload rocket launchers on the other cars.
Oh man, this sounds fun.

Saint's Row was loads of fun.
If my best bud ever gets broadband, why, I might actually play something online!
Saint's Row was very underrated I felt. I mean it got generally good ratings, but it was a lot better than word-of-mouth would have you believe.

I enjoyed Saint's Row despite the lack of any sort of air vehicles to tool around in, but that ending made me pissed. I'm quite delighted to hear that Saint's Row 2 will focus on dealing with all the bastards that brought about the cruddy ending. I'm a sucker for revenge.

Because I wouldn't really call that a "feature." What about split-screen play?
