Any good PC rts/rpgs

I've recently moved and I don't have access to the internet on my personal PC so I'm looking for some good rts/rpgs for single player that'll run with an older graphics card [geforce4 mx]. Preferably not anything medieval, not much of an Ages of Empire type guy. But I exhausted my interest in StarCraft & Warcraft 3 and I've played KOTOR I&II too many times on both sides and I cut off my WoW addiction a year ago. I wanted to try out Universe at War: Earth Assault but half of the units and buildings/options don't render so it's virtually impossible to play.

I lost my TV during the move so no console games for now :[ so I'm reverting back to PC which I never got too much into besides the previous games. But any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

You could probably get a good few hundred hours in with Morrowind and its expansions.

Medieval Total War (the first one) should fill your strategy needs. One of the greatest strategy games ever made. Yes, its medieval, no, it plays nothing like Age of Empires. Rome: Total War should run on your PC, too, but its just fancy graphics covering up inferior gameplay.

Civilzation 3, also, if you haven't played it.

Very true. Another good way to kill time are the Command and Conquer games. You can get a very big pack called CnC the First Decade which has a lot of content to it.

My Japanese is non-existent. I attempted to learn back in my Anime trading days but miserably failed hahaha.

But checking them all out I'm gonna try out the the Morrowinds [love open-ended rpgs], the Homeworlds and Command & Conquer and see how things go.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

I know you said nothing medieval, but please please please consider Baldur's Gate 2, its expansion pack, and Planescape: Torment!

If you liked KOTOR you should love these games or you have no soul.
    Please

Awww just for you I'll have to give Baldur's Gate a chance, but mostly because I've heard good stuff about it from friends.

Erm I know this is off-topic (sorry) but where can you learn Japanese? Are we talking evening classes or is there some internet resource?

In this vein, Total War: Eras would probably be a worthy investment.

    Shogun: Total War + Expansion
    Medieval: Total War + Expansion
Rome: Total War + 2 Expansions

    I think it's $30 now or something.

It's a different sort of strategy from the Crafts, certainly. Turn-based strategy coupled with tactical simulator where you move entire units of varying strength and size on a battlefield realtime.

Youtube some videos. There's a lot of fun stuff. Mods would be recommended if you're aiming for a more realistic game (or hell, even a moderate challenge).

Just get Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines. A bit buggy, but it's one of the best RPGs this side off the millenium.

And thirded on the Total War Games. A lot more suitable for single player than most of the crafts.

You like RTS and RPG titles?

Heroes of Might and Magic 3.

Also, Age of Wonders... much like HoMM, but you can create your general character.

The Total War games for sure. As others have said, they're not what you seem to think they are, go look some videos up on YouTube. Endless entertainment for strategy and history buffs (and for people who like seeing thousands of people hacking away at each other, which is everyone, surely).

...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

I've been gaming since the 80's and Ultima Underworld 2 remains my favorite game ever. you gotta run it through DosBox but it's really easy to get it to run compared to most games from the early/mid 90's. Most engrossing game ever. Best game Looking Glass ever did - forget Thief, System Shock 2 and the like...

I am the exception to this rule. I can't abide the interface of those games, and really everything else... totally didn't click with me. But sure, give them a shot. I bought the entire BG Collection for like 15 bucks so it's a steal.
