Well, i fawked up.
Of ALL the times i tell myself "i dont need to pre-order it."...i really did. I live in Tucson and EVERY time there is an expected "sell-out" of an item (such as WoW expansion, FF12, etc), there has never been one. In fact, i dont think there has EVER been a complete sell out to where you cannot buy something in Tucson the day of its shelf-date.
anyway, that is all moot now because Rock Band for the PS2 hit stores yesterday and EVERYWHERE is booked solid on pre-orders. Now, i called the main places that most people would check first.....so my question is:
----Is there any way i can get Rock Band for the PS2 within like...2 days?----
Co-workers suggested traveling to nearby small cities such as Sierra Vista or Green Valley, because smaller places would tend to not sell them immediately.
Also, how long do they generally hold someone's pre-order before they decided "aight, dude isnt coming so lets shelf this"?
And lastly....if i were to call these places and ASK, do you think they would generally lie to me and be lazy? example: "do you guys have any non-preordered Rock Band for PS2 bundles for a walk-in buy?" to get a reply of: "um, i think they are all under a pre-order"....or would i have better luck walking in to a store and asking?
rant:
ITS PLAYSTATION TWO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. I thought i was the only poor bastard left in Tucson that didnt get a NexGen console in the past 2 years. I mean seriously. i could understand if Rock Band came out for 360 and PS3 the same time as PS2, but this is just RETARDED. EVERYWHERE is "sold out" or "reserved to pre-orders". RABBLE FUCKING DFAWDFIOSDNFOSDFJSDIOFNASDF(QW#RHWNEF!!!
Thanks =/

Seriously though, give the stores a call before you go. Tucson's a good distance away from other towns that might have it if I am recalling correctly, and it's not worth a trip unless you can call them in advance and maybe have them put it behind their counter for you. Just guarantee you're coming to them if they have one available.
You'll probably run into some employees over the phone who won't go through the effort to actually check/set it aside for you, but I'd say if you call more than one store the odds are in your favor that you'll find someone willing to put in the effort for you.
The most remote location in Green Valley said they got ...ready for it? TWO. supposedly they only received as many as they had pre-orders. I asked if that is across the board, and they checked and said yes.
So wait, let me get this straight....Harmonix only ships Rock Band for PS2 for stores who ASK for a SPECIFIC number, from which that number is directly derived from the amount of pre-orders?! Is this normal?
fucking hell i might have to go buy a 360 if this is how its going to be.
Aye... it could be because it's for the PS2 (last platform), and in an unpopular area (old peoples-ville Green Valley) that they only got as many as were pre-ordered. A retailer's number one priority is to make sure that items on the shelf don't stay on the shelf... and if they anticipate an item won't sell well, they won't stock it unless they absolutely have to.
However, those two he said he had... were they already reserved, or were they available? If they were available for sale, ask him to shove one under the counter for you, and that you'll be there ASAP to pick it up. If the guy's not a total douche and you stroke his ego a bit, he'll put it away for when you come over.
I think this is normal (at least for EB/GameStop), particularly for items which are thought to be in high demand.
Also, if you're even considering buying a 360 or PS3 and you'll be getting Rock Band, buy the console first. That way you can access DLC, which is a major selling point of the game.
You may be able to get one on Ebay, but it'll be pricey.
seriously. Drive an hour north.
You know, to a real city.
My advice would be to call around and be willing to drive. Without looking at stats I would guess the PS2 version is going to be about as popular as the others, if so you could be shit out of luck.
Rock Band does rock, and rock hard though. We drove just over an hour and 45 minutes each way, for our cross border opening day bonanza and I would do it again in a second, totally worth it.
