Windows cannot format this drive. Any ideas?

I'm trying to format my laptop. It's getting senile.
This is the error message I'm getting:

Formatting SQ004126P01 (C:)
Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formatting again.

I've tried rebooting in diagnostic mode via msconfig, and that doesn't help. Any ideas?

So you're trying to format C: from inside Windows?

And C: is the partition on which Windows is installed?

You need to insert a Windows disk and go from there.. the installer will let you format the drive.

Most people do it from the Windows Installation CD.

You do know that formatting that partition will delete everything on it right?

    Ok, thanks.

I've already backed up my data.

Jeeze, I'm usually decently handy with a computer, but lately it's like trying to do brain surgery after chugging a bottle of Nyquil.

So I've finished formatting, but since I couldn't find my laptop's recovery discs, I used my desktop's copy of XP.

I need a way to get the laptop to recognize an ethernet connection to my cable modem.

Running the connection wizard only tells me that my connection should already be configured and ready to use.

Forgive me, my widows muscles are weak from lack of use.

Are you connecting through a router, or do you want windows to have your modem's user name and password and let windows connect?

I'm pretty sure you can go into your internet connection settings and delete the connection that windows made. Then you can make a new connection and select a manual setup. You'll need to know if your ISP uses PPoE and other such nonsense but it should be pretty easy to set up the connection.

Well, since I'm experiencing some... difficulty with my router:x, I'm plugged directly into the cable modem.

I think the problem lies in the fact that I'm lacking my Toshiba drivers, which would explain the lack of sound among other things.

Now it appears I'll have to individually download the drivers for all my hardware from their website and transfer them via flash drive to my laptop. :|
