Mic not detected - I want to use Vent!

Yeah, pretty straightfoward problem. Was wondering if someone could lend me a hand. I just recently installed Vent, but I found I couldn't say anything, but could hear everyone speaking. I fiddled around with my Audio Settings in the Control Panel, as well as the Voice Tab in the Setup menu in Vent, and somehow the situation suddenly became reversed - I could speak, and they'd hear me, but I had no sound on the rest of my computer.

So I system restored and I'm back at the beginning - can hear, can't speak. Can anyone help me get Ventrillo/my mic working properly?

EDIT: Also, I know that my mic is working because I can hear the playback from my speakers when I talk into the mouth piece.

Have you checked your volume properties? Onetime my computer made this weird piercing noise for like 3 weeks before i realized by mic-in volume was say to max. Make sure you aren't muted and if the mic has aa physical volume control, that it is properly set.

Also make sure you have up to date sound drivers, installing the newest ones might kick in the mic.
