So my younger brothers got a 360, and I told them I would get them a wireless adaptor. I was thinking of just getting them the official one, but is it worth it? Or are there adaptors just as good/better out there?
I don't think there's a way to use a different Wireless adapter I asked this same question about 6 months ago, however... So it might be different now.
You can buy any old wireless bridge for cheaper; they'll just plug into the ethernet port.
Ya, I needed a wireless adapter for my xbox, and ended up going this route. I bought a cheap 20 dollar airlink router from Fry's Electronics that was capable of DD-WRT to use as a wireless bridge (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Bridge). It took me a few hours to figure everything out, but I managed to get it working in the end. I'd definitely go this way if you'd feel comfortable dicking around with it. I think it was worth the effort to save the money.
For what it's worth, the official 360 adaptor is extremely good - very high strength, range and bandwidth. My 360 is the only machine in my room that can get a decent wireless signal in my room that's the other end of the house to the router.
It in no way justifies the price, but I got mine preowned and it was well worth it.
