Man, I am like one of the only people who liked the Ang Lee Hulk movie

sure it could have used more Hulk Smash, but it was really well done and Jennifer Connelly is so hot in it

    This is true.

But I mean looking back even to Labyrinth. She was one good looking girl.

Also I was checking the IMDB page for Hulk and Nick Nolte's character was only listed as Father.

Its been a while since I've seen it but damn they didn't even give him a name.

I say "pretty" because the humor wasn't exactly effortless; there were times where the one liners started encroaching on Napoleon Dynamite territory, and I got fed up with the indie kitsch shit pretty quickly

but the cast and subtle quiet moments more than made up for the occasionally strained dialogue

Going in I was afraid that it would be just another Napoleon Dynamite.

It has similarities, but Juno is way better.

The way I saw the similiarities, juno was considerably better considering they did share certain aspects.

    What I saw was;

They both had quirky small town teens at the center of the story, but Juno was by far funnier then napoleon
Both had interesting families, but junos was more believable and easier to relate to
They both had napoleon dynamite, yet somehow junos was better. (The non-michael cera guy in the lab group was totally a napoleon dynamite based character)

And besides those, the acting was better in Juno, the characters were better, the humor was amazing and the moments where you were supposed to be shocked/saddend/happy were all very effective.

That and the music was great. I'm not certain but that song at the end was absolutely the only song playing through out the entire music, barring the CD's they played in the house. And I thought the song was pretty sweet and cute.

    It was a great movie.

Also, 3:10 to yuma was the best western flick.

A preview for Juno just came on tv and the part where Cera and some little (pedro-looking) kid are running on the track was pretty Napolean-like.

Juno was a lot less random and a lot more meaningfull though

Yeah, so sad. Only slightly better than the first one.

Also, some shit that didn't make sense, predator-wise, did not add to it.

I loved the special effects, etc but man was just not doing it for me on the whole. Also, did not give a good god damn about any character except the pizza dude, and him even barely and only because he was fighting bullies.

I thought the "Meet The Spartans" trailer looked kinda funny. Just the Spartans part, not the Brittney spears nonsense. These movies would be so much better if they didn't fall back on so many pop culture references that tend to bring everything down.

If they made a spoof movie that looked like a consistent spoof, and not pop culture garbage filler taking up half the picture, I might go see it.

If they did a spoof movie that actually poked fun at the cliches the genres fall into all the time (like Walk Hard) or actually tried to be funny (like Airplane) instead of just saying "let's throw a bunch of movies together and get some shitty actors and some people who want to slum it for one movie or so and also figure out what was in the gossip rags last year and maybe shit on them too like all the late night comedians hooray!" it might be good. Meet the Spartans probably will fall into that big ramble there at the end.

This is what we call a "dark horse candidate."

Though, it's also an incorrect one.
The ultimate western is The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. It is the epitome of the western genre. It takes every element and archetype that makes up western cinema and brews it takes it as far as it can go. There will never be a better western.

Airplane! is classic parody and/or satire. It's done so well. The jokes aren't totally in your face, but mixed in with what seems like serious dialog and sold so well, that you can't tell when the joke is coming.

I don't think it counts as a satire, because it doesn't seem to stand for a principle outside of "look how silly these things are." It's just a parody. I think Wag the Dog is an actual satire.

One of these days I've really got to seem Airplane. . .

Airplane is played with complete seriousness... that's why it works. Nearly all the actors in it were, at the time, considered dramatic actors.

Now people play the jokes, so they fall flat.

Also the writing is just terrible. Then again, the writing is terrible in pretty much everything.

I think it's safe to say that Airplane was made with talented people on all levels, where as this spate of parodies as of late, lack any sort of talented people at all, even remotely. I'm sure the caterer can barely even throw together a fruit plate.
