What is the best HDTV one can find for under $2,000. This doesn't include speakers, but while on this topic, what is a kickass set of speakers I could find in a medium price range?

I got my Samsung 56" 1080P DLP HDTV about 8 months ago for 1500 and I absolutely love it. Has some great features too like 40k hour bulb life and no colorwheel.
We bought an HP 32" LCD HDTV about a year ago, and it's wonderful. Haven't had any problems with it, and at the time it was $800. As for sound, we went to Costco and picked up an XBOX branded theater system, 5.1 surround sound for $100, and it is fantastic as well.
There is alot of great LCD 1080P's for under 2000... just pick your favorite brand. Im looking for one under 1100 bucks... that tightens my choices quite a bit.
My dad has a 46 inch sharp aquos 1080P. He got it for like 1700 bucks I believe... its very nice.

We had those XBox branded theatre systems forever. In the big Green and Black box. I considered getting one but I wasn't certain of the quality.
Will be picking up an inexpensive Sony system for around $150 soon however.
They make really thin DLP systems, but yea, still not wall mountable. When it comes to mounting on the wall, be crazy fucking sure that you have enough support from the studs you are attaching the mount to. You might need a cross brace between studs to help.
Actual TVs aren't my fortay, but I can help with sound. What is a medium price range, to you? Also, how big is your room?

If you're thinking of wall mounting I'd suggest a plasma over an LCD just for the viewing angles. Depending on exactly how high up you'll be mounting it this could make a big difference in your enjoyment of it.

I bought the 42 inch version of this TV (th-42pz77u) from sears a few weeks ago, when it was on sale for ~$1100, and so far its really nice.

Yeah, the thin DLPs are quite thin now, but still not wall-mountable. I just picked up a 56" LED DLP myself, and I love it. $1700 at amazon right now. The price has been fluctuating a bit before Christmas - dunno how long it'll stay there.

I hope that's a joke.
Fantastic? Really? Hahaha, the best description you can make for ANY sound system at $100 is terrible.
Just saying. Grab an Onkyo receiver, some Polk or Athena speakers, and an HSU sub or something.
Sorry, I really don't care about fancy sound setups. As long as it sounds clear, it works for me. I'm just your joe-schmoe audio guy. For the price, the XBOX speakers are great.

Seriously. I want something I can plug in and work. I don't need to be messing with receivers and speakers and whathave you. $150 is what I'm looking at for a Sony system and I'm sure it will sound great in my room.
I've actually heard really good things about the X-Box branded system. At least in terms of bang for your buck. it won't compare with a $400 system or anything, but it's certainly tops in it's price range.

Amazon.com has it for $1898 though. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-th-50pz77u-Plasma-Display-1080P/dp/B000WINAGG/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1198807624&sr=8-1
It's beautiful.
