I'm looking to build a new system, my ailing 2500 xp needs to be put down.
I plan to wait for the lowend 45nm penryn chips to drop before I actually go ahead and make a purchase in hopes of a price drop on the Kentsfield chips.
I'm having a huge problem deciding on a motherboard though, I plan to get a Q6600 (G0 stepping) and a 8800GT. I would like to have SLI as an option but having that on a MB is not a deal breaker.
I need some advice on which chipset to go with. As far as I know my options are 650i, 680i, 780i (soon to be released if not out already), P35, P965 and 975X. Ive probably left some out but those are the ones I've been researching.
Any recommendations on chipsets and specific models would be greatly appreciated.
ASUS P5K-E looks pretty good, newegg has it listed for 140 which is nice. The only downside is no SLI, id prefer to have 2 16x PCI-E slots just to future proof. Even if I went with xfire the 2nd 4x PCI-E slot gimps it.

It only supports crossfire though. It's also very easy to overclock with this board.
EDIT: This should be moved to the tech sub forum.
P35 or X38 chipset
