So recently there was a Let's Play thread at Something Awful featuring this game called Sayobon Action. It's a tiny Japanese game that basically takes the first few levels of mario brothers and gets a crazy sadist to redesign them. Blocks will collapse, mushrooms will make you so heavy you crash through the floor of the stage, pipes will take off like rocket ships and blast you into the sun... the ways of dying are endless and hilarious. You have to overcome some pretty clever puzzles to get through the game.
And I assure you, this is not a virus. I don't know what it was about my original OP that made people think that, but it's not. This is a game that anyone who's played Mario will appreciate and enjoy. I've been a member here for a while and haven't done anything to make the mods angry, if that gives me any more credibility. I don't know what else to say.

Hmmm.
More like surprise virus.
AKA: The OP just seems so...weird.

Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.
I got this a few days ago and I can't play it. Why? Because I can't make the music work. I can't play in silence and I don't want to open up the song in a media player and set it to loop. Even if I can't quit listening to the cave music.....
Heh, the videos of the game are pretty funny alright. Doubt I'd want to try this myself, but it's great to watch for a laugh. Still, in terms of hilariously tough gameplay, it's hard to top the "Asshole Mario" vids on youtube...some of those are even worse, because almost all of it actually works logically (minus a few invisible blocks) but is just insanely hard to do.
mushrooms in the second stage; both for intended and unintended hilarity.
A lot of the tougher parts require some precise timing to pull off, but there wasn't really anything mindbogglingly difficult; not that it didn't take me to about -100 lives and a few hours to complete. Awesome music choices throughout though, great diversion.
Yeah, once you figure out what needs to be done, the game isn't really that difficult.
And just a hint, there is a real ending to this game. One that doesn't involve you dying. You'll know when you find it because the end credits will roll.

If you want to just see it, there's a link in my sig to a video... I thought it was hilarious. :-)
You have to jump over the flag pole first (make sure to trigger the yellow flag thing first), and then trigger the falling cloud thing. Then you can touch the flag pole. It's all in the video in ShadowFire's sig.
my little, uh, "Mewrio" can't make it over the pole. I make it most of the way and then wing the backside of it and, well you know, die. (Think I can patent "Mewrio"?)
Yay! Level 2! And by the way, I hope the characters that pop up next to an enemy when they kill you translates into things like "You suck!!!" "Screw you!!!" "suck!!!suck!!!suck!!!"

WHAT
Damnit. I thought after I died after beating "bowser" that it was done.

Nope.
hint:
You need to find a way onto the 'roof' of the level
Argh, I still can't make the music play. I've changed the windows compatibility and changed the sample rates and stuff in control panel down to the minimum like I had to do with Cave Story. Nothing.
As for the sound...well if you really want to hear it, they're just mp3s in the bgm folder so you could just open some player and play it in the background.

That's really weird. I would try re-downloading it just in case, and then if that doesn't work give up go cry while masturbating. That's just me, though.

And the OP is very...strange.
I downloaded and did a quick virus scan on it. Norton didn't find anything, then again, it is Norton.
The whole folder is filled with strange letters and such so I'm not unpacking that ZIP/RAR file anytime soon.

That said, not my thing. I really dislike games that frustrate me with cheap difficulty.

Well it's a Japanese game... that's your computer trying to understand moonspeak.
It's also a lot less frustrating than I Wanna Be The Guy and that ASCII game, though still pretty frustrating. It's funny. I like playing i.
That would explain it, I assumed as much.
I'll install this quite soon then and give it a try.

Now, time to play it from the beginning and then die a million times trying to figure it out.
