Ok here's the deal. I own both the Xbox360 and the PS3.
For the 360 I have some 30-odd games, with many more interesting ones (for me at least) already out but not bought yet or soon to be released. For the PS3 I have five games, one of which I actually play sometimes, the other four I just bought because they were cheap and I felt I had to at least own something for the machine. I have no interest in Blu-ray movies, simply because the leap in graphical quality alone does not warrant the asking price imo, even though I have a nice HD ready projector.
All the other nice things that the PS3 does so well like SACD (I own one SACD disc), upscaling (I honestly don't see it), backwards compatibility (hey look, there's a PS2, sitting right next to the 360) and internetbrowsing (...yeah), I don't really have a use for.
As it stands, I can make somewhere in the region of a $300 profit, simply because I bought the 60GB one at the right time. They were giving them away when you bought a Sony Bravia TV, and since this model has been discontinued it is in particularly high demand over here.
The only reason I see for not doing this is Final Fantasy XIII which will be a PS3 exclusive, if I'm not mistaken. Of course I could always pick up a used 40GB PS3 when that comes out.
I really want to love my PS3 and keep it but I don't really see how. Can you convince me??

I mean.
Umm.
Sell it. Yeah. I think that's a good decision.
(lawlsony)
honestly there's not much to justify having both a ps3 and a 360 at the moment, there's a lot of redundancy there, but the ps3 is certainly a fine system. if you haven't checked out any little big planet vids, do it, because that will make you fall in love with it as soon as it's released.
also uncharted. you owe it to yourself to at least rent and play uncharted before you sell your ps3, but it's the kind of game, if you take to it, that you'll want to crack out every few months for another run-through. it's brilliant, the apex of the generation for me so far
You clearly don't want any of the PS3's "entertainment center" features and don't give a toss about the games that are currently available. You are looking forward to one game for the platform, which will not be released for a long time. By the time said game is released, you can pick up a used PS3 for much less than its value today. Or you could wait until the end of the generation (and why not, since so little about the machine excites you) and pick it up for a pittance.
I'd go for the latter option, myself, and with very few exceptions always have. Unless you're of the belief that a game is only good in the week that it is released, and no longer, a little patience has huge payoffs.
I'm willing to bet the price is going to come down on the PS3 again before FF13 comes out, probably even 2 or 3 times.
I'd like to know what exactly you're laughing at, really.

Nothing in particular, he's borderline retarded most of the time.
Seriously dude, you're still going at 60+ posts a day?
The fact that this is actually a point of contention is hilarious to me.
If you don't have any interest in the PS3 exclusives, than you should probably go ahead and sell it, especially if FF XIII is the only upcoming game you have any interest in.
I've got a 60 gig and love it. When I sold my Wii, I was on the fence about getting a 360 or PS3 but there was just something about the PS3 that drew me to it.
Now that I have it, I'm really happy with it. I truly enjoy reading (watching?) Mainichi Issho every morning, fucking around with custom themes, the downloadable games, and the media center apps. I only have a handful of games on disc and they don't see a whole lot of love excepting Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Oblivion.
If you can make a profit then go right on ahead and pick up another machine later on when some games you want come out for it. No harm done.
I bought the PS3 at almost $200 below retail. If you add up the cost of the few things I bought for it along the way and then consider what I can sell the whole package for, I stand to make a $300 profit. SO it won't be sold at $300 above retail, that would be a bit steep even for the current market.
What that one guy said about just messing around with the XMB, browser etc. is exactly what I find myself doing with the PS3 at the moment. But I could just as easily fire up the PC to do all that.
Oh and about the 30 games worth playing on 360? Yes. Totally. Except of course that at the moment all I play is Burnout Revenge. Oh no wait also Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect and even Viva fucking Pinata.
You guys are doing a pretty shitty job convinving me here. ;-)
I also support the sale, with picking one up when there's two-four games out you actually want.
Oh, to have the disposable income to blow five hundred dollars on playing two to four games.
You do know where you're at, right? :P
This thread really doesn't have to go on much longer. Everyone's just going to tell you to sell it, and if you can make a profit, why not? You can have a few extra dollars, buy some nice pants, and then just get the system again when more games come out - which they will.
The only other option is to lose out on gaining a 300 dollar (maximum) profit, and keep the system because you said you'll probably end up buying it again later.
But honestly, these threads don't make much sense to me. Convince you? You already seem set on selling it, and keep justifying doing so and how you don't have any interest in the current games. Why should we convince you when you've already made up your mind, whether you believe it or not? Just sell it already and be done with it.
Who flat out insulted him?
If you mean me, I honestly thought he should sell it.
... you may be right. Goddamn you and your rightness.
I didn't get the insult either, to be honest. Must be that guy who said that if I don't own such and such game I do not deserve to live or something. Honestly, that's supposed to be an insult? 8-)
Yeah, it was Unco-ordinated. It was hardly a nasty insult, but still, my point was that it's hardly the right way for him to convince you.
At the beginning of both the Xbox and PS2 lifespans, western developers complained that the PS2 was difficult to code for, and produced inferior games for the PS2. Then look at the end of the lifetime of the Xbox and PS2. The PS2 had GT4 and God of War 2, which graphically blew everything on the Xbox out of the water. Then the PS2 also had Shadow of the Colossus and Okami, which were exclusives which no comparison on the Xbox, which only had cookie cutter titles.
I believe the same will happen for the 360 and PS3. It's already happening too, just look at GT5 and Little Big Planet (which hopefully should allow you to download all the levels you ever need, without having to create them yourself)!
you have you mind set on not enjoying the system, then - sell it
although the tomb raider comparisons to uncharted ceased pretty much as soon as people actually played it. it's much more like gears of war, or ico, or resident evil. if you could possibly combine those three
Although I partially agree with you, this post really has the tone of a Sony fanboy, particularly the bolded part.
Panzer Dragoon Orta is telling you to fuck right off.
I'm a PC fanboy. I'm still on the fence regarding 360 and PS3. Live apparently doesn't have dedicated servers, which I, as a PC user, cannot fathom. But everything else about Live seems to kill the PS3s online features, and I would dearly like to play Dead Rising and Crackdown... but then again, I'd also like to play GT5 and LBP...
But I'm a patient man, I'll wait.
Shadow of the Colossus had a comparible game on the PC. It was called Microsoft PowerPoint.
Ha ha! You've been a great audience! Thank you and good night!
It may have come bundled with something, but it has an estimated cash value of greater than $600. Hence, it is not "free". It is costing him $600 just by squatting on his entertainment center, apparently rarely getting used.
Not so. I bought it off the guy who got it for 'free' with his brand new TV.
Sounds like a winner.
There's also bound to be a new smaller hardware version eventually, and by then there will be rumble-enabled pads, and Home or whatever Sony are going to do for their online gaming scheme, which are things I'm certainly waiting on.
