Kirby Squeak Squad OWNS Wonderboy in Monster Land!!

To me, Wonderboy in Monster Land is the absolutely best platform game there ever was. I know the Marios are technically superior, but I never got as attached to them as I did to Monster Land. There's just something about the whole setting, the bosses and the equipment, that becomes more than the sum of the parts.

I almost can't believe it, but I am having just as much fun, if not more, playing Kirby on my girlfriend's DS as I had back in the day playing Wonderboy in Monster Land, and that's something I never thought would happen, especially since they are rather different... but they FEEL the same to me!

Now I am wondering, are there any other games out there which I would be able to locate and get the same feeling from? DS games preferrably, as that's the only console I currently have access to.

Also, oddly enough, I never liked Wonderboy in Monster World (never had a Megadrive), which this Kirby game technically resembles more, so you don't need to recommend that.

Heard the proposition that RIAA and MPAA should join forces and form "Music And Film Industry Association"?

The remake of one of the first kirby titles for the GBA is one of my favorite platformers of all time. Nightmare in Dreamland.

Kirby and the Amazing Mirror was kind of dull due to the level design and the mapping and the fact that it was an open world in the style of Metroid. Also, I hated Kirby's durka durka canvas whatever. I got to the last set of areas, and they were so hard that I just didn't care enough to play them.

As for other platformers (that aren't mario), I really don't know. The Kirby games are my favorites.

I checked the other Kirby games out on youtube. They look exactly like Squeak Squad, so I guess that that's just a continuation.

    Anyone else got other recommendations?

I also looked at Castlevania, but those seemed so stiff (no pun intended)...

Squeak Squad, while good, was entirely too easy and too short.

Kirby's Adventure had at least a tiny bit of challenge and of course the whole finding the secret exits thing.

But Squeak Squad just held your hand all the way through.

Quite. I was bitterly disappointed that the sequel wasn't going to use the same gameplay mechanics.

Canvas curse is a cool concept, but I think that Squeak Squad is more streamlined and polished both graphically and gameplay wise.

Any more recommendations on games similar to Kirby or Wonderboy for the DS?

I like Kirby, but all his recent games look like cut-down retreads of Superstar. Is that an accurate assessment?
Get a SNES and play Superstar! Go go!

I see where you get that idea from. Especially Squeak Squad.

The games Sakurai wasn't behind seem to be trying way to hard to compensate for it .
Squeak Squad was like Kirby lite. No substance and no classic bosses( wispy woods wasn't the irst boos I mean that's a sin.)
I'm pretty sure he didn't do amazing Mirror either, because everything about it was so damn complicated.

Something like that, yeah. It doesn't look like there'll be anything truly new in the remake, so if you've played the original SNES version then I don't know if the remake will be worth a repurchase in the same way that Nightmare in Dream Land is for Kirby's Adventure. (Aside: Adventure being on Virtual Console makes it quite a worthy purchase as well. Let's hope Kirby Super Star (KSS) makes it to VC this year as well.) I'd much rather see a new game using the KSS ability system... Squeak Squad has been getting there in terms of allowing different attacks with each ability, but not nearly to the extent as in KSS.

Holy God, why did I not know of this sooner. Kirby's Adventure is one of the most amazing games I've ever played, and its especially impressive considering the hardware its on.

Adventure is the second Kirby Game.

Dreamland 1 has been remade once(and only once) for superstar. It's missing an entire stage and the inclusion of the power up system honestly destroys it. Also no Madame von Zepplin.

Nightmare in Dreamland is Kirby's Adventure with new graphics and easier to find hidden doors.
Oh you can play as Metaknight as well provided you beat hard mode.

If you like kirby, I can't recomend enough the Staffi games, I have the first one on GBA and am loving it. Very similar vibe to the Kirby series.

Yep. You can check the Wikipedia page, Ohtsam's Kirby Series Let's Play Thread, and the Nintendo Fall Conference Thread for more info. Much of the info in the two PA threads are a little redundant compared to the Wiki page, however.

I didn't realize Kirby's Dreamland was released before Adventure. Huh, the more you know I guess.

Also, Dreamland stands out in my mind as being incredible considering the hardware as well.

That's the one with the girl, right? But that's an old japanese only Mega Drive game, isn't it? Or has a remake been released for a newer system? Any chance of a DS version?
