After ordering a refurbished Inspiron notebook and receiving it yesterday (12/31), the LCD inverter went bad overnight. Tech support was pretty quick to set me up to send the unit out to have the display replaced, but I'm wondering if the ten business day turnaround time is anywhere near realistic. If anyone here has any positive or negative feedback on Dell's promptness with this kind of thing, I would really like to hear it.
In the meantime, does anyone know if there is something I could have done to cause this issue? I left the machine on overnight to transfer all of my important data off of my desktop, but the lid was closed so the monitor should have been turned off the entire time.
Ten business days is the normal with most companies, give them a few extra days to get it back to you as parts may be out of stock.
The only thing that you could have contributed to damage an inverter board would be to open and close the laptop repeatedly and rapidly. Always check to make sure that your laptop doesn't go into standby or shutdown when you close it , in case your working on something.
Dells usually pretty good. One time the power supply on my computer went, i called up at like, 8pm, and the very next day at 930am, a new one arrived at my house with a box to send back the dead one.
I've found Dell to be really quick, but I've only dealt with them as a business customer. I'm betting that you'll get it back within the 10 business days, if not a little faster.
