Should I Buy a Used 360?

I'm seeking to purchase a 360 and debating whether to buy it used from EBstop, but the only thing keeping me from the purchase is possible hardware failure.

If I buy used I can take advantage of this deal (Headset, 3mo of live 100 MS pts, and a $10 off coupon) bringing my grand total to around $280+tax.
Obviously, if I buy a $60 game I can knock $10 off and get the entire thing for around $330.

New premium console +game +live =$400+ :|

Since all my friends bought new, I was wondering what the general experience is for buying a used 360, am I considerably more at risk for hardware failure?

Furthermore, if I were to buy new how can I distinguish the new (falcon?) chipsets from the old (zephyr?)?

Considering I've heard that all Xbox 360's have the defects, i would probably not buy one without a warranty if I were you.

That is a pretty good deal though.

I bought a used 360 from someone about a year ago and it has ran perfectly so far. I get the disc unreadable error on Mass Effect but that is the first problem I have had with it.

some people have used their 360s perfectly and had huge issues. Some have abused theirs and had none. It's kind of a crap shoot, but i'd say that a large enough majority of 360s have crapped out to make buying used a bad idea.

That being said, i have a spare 360 that i replaced when i sent it back for repairs. If you'd like to buy used, send me a pm or something. I'm in vancouver.

All the 360s manufactured until about the middle of this year had the same defect that caused the RROD. Unless the guys at the store let you look at the manufacture date on the back, I wouldn't buy a used one. If the date is after June 07, go for it. Because of the massive amounts of defective 360s, EBStop no longer offers extended warranties on any 360, new or used.

Absolutely do not buy a used 360 unless you are covered under Microsoft's warranty or have a comparable warranty. Half the used 360s I sell are returned.

Ok, so I'm gonna suck it up and buy new, so is having an hdmi output an absolute indicator whether a premium 360 is a falcon? Anything else I should look for that distinguishes it from zephyr? Can anyone show in a pic where the manufacturing date/ anything else is located on the box?

Thanks for your input so far guys.
