Recommend me movies

So I have a zip.ca account (basically canadian netflix) and my "ziplist" is nearing empty.

I'd like some recommendations from everyone here.

What movies do I *have* to see. I'm sure the first question will be what have you seen already but that would take way too long to list so just recommend what you can and I'll pick out what I've seen.

I go through phases. I just got into the sopranos, so my recent purchases were:

    Godfather Trilogy
    Heat
    Ronin

Other good films, in no particular order:
    Amile
    Fight club
    Little Miss Sunshine
    Akira
    Ghost in the shell
    Memento
    Sideways
    Labyrinth
    the Dark Crystal
    The Princess Bride
    3 Kings
    ...

    I cant keep going - I wouldn't stop...

    Can you get TV shows?

IMDB Top 250 Movies of All Time
AFI's Top 100 Movies of All Time

I would go through the above lists and put together a queue from that. There'd likely be a lot of duplication between those lists and any recommendations you'd get from random Internet folk, and at least those lists are each all in one place.

If you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend seeing 'Hero'. IMHO way better than crouching tiger and the other spin offs and similar movies.

All of the movies on this list are good. I'll just add one. It's a low-budget Indy flick but in my opinion it's Diedrich Bader's best work: Evil Alien Conquerors

Hero is one of my most favorite movies.

The reason I avoided just going off the IMDB top 250 list is because I feel people here would be more in line with my taste than the entire internet voting.

I never knew about the AFI one though, so thanks :)

Children of Men blew me away when I saw it in the theater. Some of the best scenes in a movie that I have ever seen.

And The Prestige is pretty fantastic. The whole movie is done like a huge 2-hour magic trick.

Leon (aka 'Leon the Professional') was a great heartwarming movie about a hitman that pseudo-adopts a little girl who, in turn, teaches him how to love. That summary is about as cliche as I could possibly make it, but its pretty much what happens. Its brilliantly executed.

And someone already said Snatch, the same director also did Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels which is really, really good. I thought Snatch was a funner movie, but this one is, I guess, the better of the two as far as story goes.

Disclaimer: I think some things are fun to watch even though they aren't brilliant films.

    Fun:

    South Park Movie
    Shrek
    The Incredibles
    40 Year Old Virgin
    Clerks
    The Wedding Singer
    Best in Show
    Borat
    Office Space
    Back to the Future trilogy

    Possibly brilliant:

    Spirited Away
    Howl's Moving Castle
    Amelie
Russell Peters DVD's (the Canadian comedian)

    Interesting:

    Waking Life
    Grave of the Fireflies
    Royal Tenenbaums
    The Breakfast Club
    Lucky Number Slevin
    Sin City

Being Canadian.... have you seen Corner Gas? I really enjoy it. It's a nice change because it's clean, honest jokes and so on. But that's TV....

IMHO, don't bother with Fletch Lives. If you really like Steve Martin you could try Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. Not his most acclaimed, but still good for some laughs. Then again I haven't watched it in over 15 years.
