So what are people's recommendation on getting the 360 networked wirelessly?
I think these are the possible options
1) The WiFi adapter (Overpriced?)
2) Convert a router to a network bridge (Linksys WRT54G?)
3) Some other Wireless Bridge (Recommendations?)
4) 75ft of network cable
The adaptor is well worth it in theory, excellent piece of hardware, integrates nicely into the dashboard -- they made it VERY effortless -- but yes, it's overpriced. Check ebay or your local craigslist for a used or secondhand one. They're not exactly high-risk items to buy used, it's one solid piece with an antenna.
If you can't get one used or otherwise cheaper, go for option to. You can apparently flash DD-WRT (or your other firmware of choice) onto a router, use it as a bridge, as you said.. supposedly works well. But you don't get access to it from the dashboard that way, so option 1 is still definitely the best.
I bought the Encore wireless bridge for $27 (with $15 rebate) from newegg a year ago and it works perfectly with the XBox 360. But I don't see it listed anymore.
I am gonna get into trouble for pimping this so much
Airport Express with Airtunes. Same price as the official adaptor but acts as a Wireless bridge, Wireless Range Extender, USB Print Server, Music Streamer and some other stuff I can't remember right now.
Fuck the wireless adaptor. 100 dollars (130 in canada) for what basically amounts to a wireless bridge? No thanks.
I bought a linksys WRT54G and installed the dd-wrt firmware on it. I now have a much more functional peice of equipment for literally 1/3 of the price of the official adaptor.
what I did was hook it up to my computer and have it share it's networking connection. If you have an old notebook computer all the better. I have the added benefit of typing on my keyboard when I'm typing messages to people on Live.
Thats how i did it at first too, which was ok for downloading stuff off of live, but when i went to play games, i realised that the wireless USB stick i was using wasnt enough to keep up. So your mileage may vary with that route.
XBOX MN-740 Wireless adapter works just fine. Got it on eBay for about $30 about a week ago. At first I didn't think it worked, and I got kinda pissed... Then I found out that Live was just messing up, so now it's working.
I also just got my new linksys WRT54G at a deal price of $50, I'd say this router with all it's features (though hidden) is hard to beat, very pleased with that purchase.
I still need a Wireless adapter for my xbox, but can't find a suitable one, also can't find the one you mentioned on ebay for only $30, can you give the related link?
I wish they made a wireless N adapter for my delicious new Linksys N router.
The odd thing is, I got it Christmas Eve, and I was able to whoop ass in Call of Duty and Halo for about two days, and then the numbers of bars in Network Settings went down from three or four to two or one. I can sign in quickly on occasion, and everything loads extremely slowly.
Someone explained that Xbox Live would have nothing to do with the bars going away, so I changed it at Best Buy for the same router, and the same thing happened. It was perfect for around a day or two and then the connection turned weak.
I don't have any fancy cellphones that would mess up the connection. I'm wondering if Xbox Live is causing this after all.

I'M A TWITTER SHITTER
Check DD-WRT's site for a compatibility list and you can then buy a cheap router to convert into a wireless bridge.

How would I do it?

Prices went up, but they always fluctuate. Just keep an eye there.
