PAX Hotel proposal (Rape jokes accepted unless prohibited by law)

nevilleneville The Worst Gay(Seriously. The Worst!)Registered User regular
edited January 2008 in Social Entropy++
So Seattle has a lot of mini-PAXes, but the main event is here too.
While some Seattle people have room to crash, others would prefer to be right in the action itself.
(This includes me, since I live in Bellevue)

So Polago and I are going to try and get an entire floor of rooms secured at a hotel for PA forum folk.
Here are the current ideas:

1. It would be for forumers (and their direct guests) only. The reason is we'd want a floor where we could party without waking/disturbing others.

2. We are ESTIMATING the costs right now, just so we have some numbers to work with.
The amount we are going on is $165 per room per night, which works out to about $5000 total for a floor of 30 rooms for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.

If you have 4 people in your room, that works out to
$123.75 per person (without hotel fees/tax)

3. Obviously not everyone has to do this, but a large number of us enjoy the "WOO PAAAAAX" parties. A hotel will clean up after us and people don't have to worry about being evicted this way. Ahem.
:-)

4. We are going to look into all of the downtown hotels if we have interested people, but The Sheraton & The W both are topping the list of places to check into.

If you are interested, say so or contact Polago or myself. We'd like to see who (if anyone) would be up for this before we take it "up the chain." Obviously if you think it is a bad idea but have suggestions on what would improve it, let us know that too.

I might do this, but do you have a specific hotel in mind?

I really liked the one Bogey stayed at, though I can't recall its name

The Sheraton downtown is the one the $165/night rate is from, but any of them would probably be willing to do it.

The big issue is whether or not we can get X people to agree to it ahead of time.
We would need to get the block done -before- the hotel rooms go public for PAX, to ensure we get them all together.

I think that can be dealt with on a room-by-room basis.
I wouldn't mind fronting a bit more to help out people in my room if they couldn't pay as much.

Its more of a "Would people WANT this sort of a thing??" question.

    Everybody leaves their doors open.
Longshot rounds flying in between rooms.

Designate a couple rooms for Guitar Hero/Rock Band so we can keep those off limits.

I don't think every room would be a party room. Likely we would have a few rooms that the people want wild parties (Bogey's room, probably :P) and other people can sleep as they wish.

Some people are capable of sleeping through anything, and some people just won't sleep at PAX. Either way, not getting almost kicked out of our room (and not having to kick 60+ people out because of said threat of being kicked out) would be a major plus to a lot of people.

The W would be the best place for this to happen, except that we'd be looking at a larger cost among other things, and the Sheraton already has experience with the PAX crowd, and consequencially the PAX crowd with it.

It means that he selflessly took position at our door an had to turn back about 200 people since somebody went walking around PAX with a sign with our room number on it, indicating "party over here!" Causing a disastrous crash and burn.
