well I guess the director of the game would know more than whiny ungrateful fanboys

So are you a douche only in GnT or what?

it depends on the subject, really

I tend to get annoyed by people complaining about good things

I fail to see how this is a good thing.

    Well, other the comedy value.

It's an extra pair of fun characters with no affect on game balance or plot. Plus it'll generate revenue for Namco which should help with their game development budget.

I mean, it's not like it's tweaking the gameplay to be as shitty as fuck like DOA or anything.

Hm...guest character bullshit aside, I just checked out that interview, and what caught my attention was what he said about character creation - that it would be used to "supplement where players lack"...not sure I like the idea that created characters will help me block. I can only assume that it's not a universal thing with the mode.

Yeah, I didn't bring that up because this topic seems to be more for people bitching about or defending the inclusion of the SW characters. If you want to get serious for a second, I'm worried about that, too. Some sort of auto-block going on or something? Also, his no-answer on the topic of instant-kill moves was a little troubling.

On the good side, I'm glad that Cassandra is keeping her low-throws. They made up everything else they did to her.

And I'm curious that the topic of those four red blocks under the health bar hasn't been discussed further by the devs or anyone interviewing them. When they said in the initial article that there would be a third option for winning rounds, besides KOs and ROs, and then released screenshots with those red blocks all over the place and basically told everyone to start connecting the dots I was waiting for more info. Then again, they also said that guest characters would be "everyone's favourite swashbucklers," and look how that panned out.

yeah aside from the guest characters, I wanna learn more about if it will be more akin to fixed SC2 or broken SC3. I loved SC3, but yeah it was broken in many ways. I just hope it's way more like 1 or 2. preferably 2.

The "supplement where players lack" is equipment that raises certain stats, like defense or strength so you take or do more damage. It's a CAS thing it seems.

Insta-kills is theorized to be a throw only executable at the end of a match. If the opponent doesn't break it, it turns into a fancy fatality.

Also, it's not "everyone's favourite swashbucklers". It was "everyone's favorite saber-rattlers", although I can't imagine Vader or Yoda doing any rattling.

Ah, it does kinda make sense, then...having created-character specific items for inexperienced players is a nice touch, if that's what it's going to be. (I was mainly worried that created characters would function solely as some kind of crutch, which would be a real shame) Does it actually say that somewhere, or is it just speculation at this point?

And about the instant KOs...I dunno, that doesn't quite sound right to me. Isn't the concept that they're some kind of alternative to the traditional KO and ring out?

Hum. I looked back, and saber-rattlers it is. Guess that makes a little more sense now.

And the equipment thing I can see, too. If they let people level their stuff up and buy items, etc, it will get a whole new group of random donks willing to play. I'm sure they'd keep that stuff in a different mode from regular matches, where stats are set, so I don't see it being too much of a problem. Weapon Master mode has been in every game so far, and it's never bothered anyone I know.

As for the end of round KO throws, I can get that from the screenshots. Sounds stupid to me.

    We need sources, though. Sources.

Hmm...I dunno, but when I heard of that third way of winning myself, I instantly thought they were bringing about the Critical moves from Soul Blade. Don't remember why but the way it was worded came off like that.

Well, I did some looking around and it seems B:L is right. That sucks. There's also some very glitchy CES gameplay videos on youtube, with my personal favourite being one where Taki breaks a Mitsu throw and takes full damage. Nice. No new moves on showcase for Cassandra or Mitsu, and there's some strange DOA/SF-style "Counter-Hit" pop-ups on the screen now, maybe for combos, too. They're too blurry for me to make out. Nothing I've seen so far I would classify as "good news." Yet.

Also, I wish so hard that they would let people who actually have some idea about what's going on test the game. The Tekken and VF communities are so blessed in that regard.

Umm...there are knowledgable SC players around. Just not in those vids. :P

As for the "red books" earlier...those are the icons to mark each round's wins. Like in every fighting game...

There's a bunch of new moves in those videos as well, despite them being mashers.

The pop-up words are in Japanese, but it seems to be a combo tracking system.

The Taki throw break damage thing is weird...but it looks more like she took damage for guard impacting a throw (she moves forward, whereas in a throw break they both move back). I doubt this is a real gameplay tweak, but if it's so, it'll sure strengthen the throwing game.

I know there are good SC players around. It's just that when I got early news about T6 or VF5 it was from people who knew the games through and through and would give a direct break-down of what was different and what wasn't, what moves were still around and which were new. I watched a few SC4 gameplay videos and saw only a few "new" moves. Whatever some guy was talking about Cassandra having a bunch of new kicks, he must have been seeing different matches. Those were all SC3 moves. Same with Mitsu, except he might have a BBB string again. Taki did a few new things, but nothing that remarkable.

And that was an early throw escape, something they added in SC3, along with late escapes. If she'd GId the throw there would have been the 'ping' and the animation for it.

I guess there are more Tekken and VF fans in the industry than SC.
But Tekken still needed the playtest to get all the details out. Just give SC some more time for the details to trickle down.

Taki had some interesting new stuff from PO. Mitsu has his new hilt smash (it's different than from the beta move in the SCIII demo that was removed in the full version).

The early throw break threw me off, because it normally keeps both players relatively in place, whereas here Taki moved forward quickly like in a GI, so I thought it could've been a new animation for GI'ing throws.

Yeah, it looks a little like a GI. It usually comes from mashing A or B for some other reason when you get grabbed. You get a frame advantage, but not a berserk one. Nothing is guaranteed. A late throw escape has the escapee fall on their ass.

I wonder if they'll make guard crushes useful again, as in SC2. I hope so.

is it wrong that when this was mentioned on TRS, someone said "Cause the PS3 is black and the Xbox is green!" that it totally clicked in my head? I had always assumed the White/Black paradigm, and where the Elite fit into the mix.

So Namco started sending out surveys to subscribers, and within the surveys is some pretty wacky stuff. New game modes, customizable movesets for every character (including the main characters), RPG-esque modes where you level-up to increase stats. Guh. I really hope they make the smart move and keep all the extra stuff VERY separate from the vanilla VS modes. And how they think they're going to balance out 700 different fighting styles is totally beyond comprehension.

I'm pretty sure you'll still be able to play with the default characters only. In SC2 (or was it 3?) There was a mode where you could choose from any weapon you had unlocked. It was a separate from the standard VS mode.

The insta-kills were also described in more detail.

Active Battle points, which you earn for each winning round, can be used to perform a powerful move with the possibility of ending the match. This is most likely the one-hit KO's, and they are just unlockable power attacks.
