SCIV Gets Exclusive Characters: Darth Vader(PS3) & Yoda(360), Now With Trailer!
Posts
I know I will (unless it ends up going the same direction as SC3, then I'll pass. SC1&2 FTW)
I already have an arcade stick for my 360, so if I do get SC4 (odds are low) it will definitely be for the 360.
100 kills without dying gets you the gun character!
I was a huge fan of SC1 and 2, but skipped over 3 entirely. From what people were saying, it looks like that was a smart move.
Man, I wouldn't base the purchase of a PS3 or 360 on one exclusive character - hell it takes more than 5 games to convince me on a console - I meant for those who already own both systems.
SC3 isn't bad by fighting game standards, but is by SC standards
Judging by the reactions in this thread, the cross-over is gonna pay dividends for Namco, as fucked up and exclusive characters is.
Did Sony throw money at them (again)? Because we would all rather have Darth Vader, let's be honest...

fuck Vader
he's a whiny cunt
Yoda's always been awesome.
Until Episode II.
Strange, by becoming more "awesome" in general terms, he lost a lot of what made him awesome.
Why? I'd rather them just make quality star wars games and quality non-star wars games, no reason to muddle things together.
The combined HD platform install base by the time this comes out will be...lets say 4x smaller than the PS2 install base when SC3 came out, and the development costs are exponentially higher, even disregarding the reusing of the engine for 3.
SC is not, excepting Link, Heihachi and Spawn.
This is pure money-pandering bullcrap. I can't even look at the screens and think anything positive.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
To chip in my nerd two cents, I guess my problem is that the Episode 1 fight was the most awesome lightsaber fight in any of the movies, by a factor of like 1000, and neither Vader nor Yoda was in it. Vader didn't have any moves to speak of, and Yoda was just spastic. So I'm not really attached to either of them as far as a fighting game goes.
Also, Episode III spoiler
And this is coming from someone who writes fanfiction. Do you hear me, people? Fanfiction.
Anyway, will get SCIV. I don't care much about Vader or Yoda.

Star Wars on the other hand... it's a pretty big leap - Grand Canyon big - to figure out how Yoda and Vader suddenly show up one day and challenge Ivy to a fight. It's just such a bizzare crossover. As an example, Aliens vs. Predator you can see both existing in the same world. Aliens vs. Darkwing Duck though? Hard to wrap your mind around that, no matter how cool it may sound.
I'm all for this by the way. But I'm with the crowd saying "...What?!. Some writer out there now has the job of trying to figure out how the Soul Edge factors into the fight between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, and has to do so without it sounding like some 6 year old's fantasy. And I sure don't envy his task.
Well... no reason I guess. I've never kept up with whatever Soul Caliber calls a plot, but I thought it took itself a little seriously. If they wanna for SC5 say "The next day, Santa Claus got very angry at Cervantes, and decided to teach him a lesson", more power to them.
Oh, and the inevitable "Who cares about plot in a fighting game lol". Well, you're right. Still doesn't make this any less weird. I just would have loved to have been in the room when this was suggested.
Possible phrases:
Pre-match phrases:
"You're insignificant next to the power of the Force."
"I find your lack of faith disturbing."
"The Force is strong with this one."
Win phrases:
"Alert my star destroyer!"
"The circle is complete. Now I am the master."
"Your powers are weak."
"If this is a consular ship, WHERE is the Ambassador?!"
His lose phrase should just be him choking his opponent. And then winning anyways.
That'll be my biggest problem with this. I just don't accept that Voldo is capable of defeating the Dark Lord of the Sith.
All the characters want to find a sword, and then use it for good or evil.
Satans..... hints.....
Yoda/Vader detect a massive force disturbance in an uncharted sector of space. He goes alone and discovers the Soul Edge and the Soul Calibur. Yoda wishes to collect and destroy both swords to resore balance to the force. Vader Wants the Soul edge to overthrow he Emperor and rule the galaxy.
Both can fit into the 20 year gap between ep 3 and 4. They aren't canon anyway so it doesn't matter.
