I don't know if I like how Darth Vader looks... However, Yoda looks f'in sweet! I'll probably still not pick this up because I suck ass at 3D fighting games, and all they do is make me angry.

I'm betting 80% of multi-platform owners who choose which version based on character will get the PS3 version for Vader.

I know I will (unless it ends up going the same direction as SC3, then I'll pass. SC1&2 FTW)

I already have an arcade stick for my 360, so if I do get SC4 (odds are low) it will definitely be for the 360.

Would be awesome if you can unlock Boba Fett on both consoles after doing some crazy ass shit like beating the game with every character on the hardest difficulty or something like that.

100 kills without dying gets you the gun character!

I probably shouldn't consider Darth Vader as a factor in my "should I get a PS3 or a 360" tally... but it looks like that's going to be the case.

I was a huge fan of SC1 and 2, but skipped over 3 entirely. From what people were saying, it looks like that was a smart move.

I will honestly say that I wasn't excited about this game before this, and now it's on my purchase list. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan but this is just too cool not too put down some cash on.

Man, I wouldn't base the purchase of a PS3 or 360 on one exclusive character - hell it takes more than 5 games to convince me on a console - I meant for those who already own both systems.

SC3 isn't bad by fighting game standards, but is by SC standards ;)

Judging by the reactions in this thread, the cross-over is gonna pay dividends for Namco, as fucked up and exclusive characters is.

For what it's worth, I loved SC3's create-a-fighter. If a game can include the classic Jesus vs. Hitler fight, then it's all right in my book.

SC3 was great, it's just that it fell flat in terms of balance. I enjoyed it, but if I were to play it competitively? I'd go with SC2

    One character per console? LAME.

Did Sony throw money at them (again)? Because we would all rather have Darth Vader, let's be honest...

I really wish they'd just stop this exclusive character per console bullshit with the series and just give us all the new characters. When I saw they were included those two characters, what do you think the first thought came to my mind? Pitting them against each other. But I can't do that because of this stupid crap they've been pulling. Would putting them on all versions hurt anyone or sales?

We only know of one exclusive character per console so far. We don't know if there are any third-party characters (Star Wars or otherwise) who are on both consoles, or if there are any other console-exclusive third-party characters.

Sadly the truth is they're looking to boost their sales. What's the easiest stunt for them to pull now? Offer Yoda as DLC to PS3 owners and offer Vader as DLC on the Live Marketplace. It hasn't been confirmed mind you but I'll bet it happens.

Given how fighting game sales have been trending for years, and in particular the last one, perhaps they were concerned that this game couldnt warrant a HD budget without something like this.

The combined HD platform install base by the time this comes out will be...lets say 4x smaller than the PS2 install base when SC3 came out, and the development costs are exponentially higher, even disregarding the reusing of the engine for 3.

Smash is a series based upon mashing together different games and their characters.

SC is not, excepting Link, Heihachi and Spawn.

This is pure money-pandering bullcrap. I can't even look at the screens and think anything positive.

Ugh. Way to kill the last bit of respect I had for you, Namco. Link was one thing, he at least somewhat fit in with the Soul Calibur line up, but Star Wars characters? I'm sure this idiotic marketing stunt will work splendidly though. God damn it.

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

To chip in my nerd two cents, I guess my problem is that the Episode 1 fight was the most awesome lightsaber fight in any of the movies, by a factor of like 1000, and neither Vader nor Yoda was in it. Vader didn't have any moves to speak of, and Yoda was just spastic. So I'm not really attached to either of them as far as a fighting game goes.

    Also, Episode III spoiler
They ought to put in those three Jedi guys that Mace Windu brought with him, and their special move could be to stand around and be slowly stabbed to death.

I... I cannot relate with people who care enough about the storyline of videogames to be mad or dismayed by this.

And this is coming from someone who writes fanfiction. Do you hear me, people? Fanfiction.

Anyway, will get SCIV. I don't care much about Vader or Yoda.

The reason people can likely believe Spawn and Link, but not Vader or Yoda, is because the previous two are fairly neutral in story. What I mean is, Spawn can be boiled down to a demon with a soul, and Link as your classic elf adventurer. You throw them into a story about medieval warfare with demons and evil swords with pirates, and they can mesh right on in.

Star Wars on the other hand... it's a pretty big leap - Grand Canyon big - to figure out how Yoda and Vader suddenly show up one day and challenge Ivy to a fight. It's just such a bizzare crossover. As an example, Aliens vs. Predator you can see both existing in the same world. Aliens vs. Darkwing Duck though? Hard to wrap your mind around that, no matter how cool it may sound.

I'm all for this by the way. But I'm with the crowd saying "...What?!. Some writer out there now has the job of trying to figure out how the Soul Edge factors into the fight between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, and has to do so without it sounding like some 6 year old's fantasy. And I sure don't envy his task. :)

Well... no reason I guess. I've never kept up with whatever Soul Caliber calls a plot, but I thought it took itself a little seriously. If they wanna for SC5 say "The next day, Santa Claus got very angry at Cervantes, and decided to teach him a lesson", more power to them.

Oh, and the inevitable "Who cares about plot in a fighting game lol". Well, you're right. Still doesn't make this any less weird. I just would have loved to have been in the room when this was suggested.

    Possible phrases:

    Pre-match phrases:
"You're insignificant next to the power of the Force."
"I find your lack of faith disturbing."
"The Force is strong with this one."

    Win phrases:

    "Alert my star destroyer!"
"The circle is complete. Now I am the master."
    "Your powers are weak."
"If this is a consular ship, WHERE is the Ambassador?!"

Yoda/Vader detect a massive force disturbance in an uncharted sector of space. He goes alone and discovers the Soul Edge and the Soul Calibur. Yoda wishes to collect and destroy both swords to resore balance to the force. Vader Wants the Soul edge to overthrow he Emperor and rule the galaxy.

Both can fit into the 20 year gap between ep 3 and 4. They aren't canon anyway so it doesn't matter.
