Reccomend me a game like Maximo

I needed to chill out with a fun, not to difficult game so I decided to pop Maxmo into my PS2 and start playing that again. Although I really love the game I'd rather find a different, but fairly similar 3d platformer to relax with, something not too hard but with a decent amount of challenge if I want it, eg, no collectothons. I hated the gameplay of Jak and Daxter as it was simple running around and collecting random shit, in my opinion the laziest form of games design. So, can anyone reccomend me a decent, fun platformer that looks nice, has a lot of character and charm, has great game mechanics and has a decent level of challenge (but not insanley though)?

The last 3d platformer I went through was Sly Cooper 3 which I thorougly enjoyed thanks to the huge amount of variety in the missions and great presentation (EDIT: Now I think about it, the last one was actually Psyconauts). I have a 360, Ps2, PSP, DS, PC and gamecube so reccomend away, and by the way I'v already gone through Maxmio 2.

Smilar games I have already played and enjoyed

Maximo 1/2
Psyconauts
Sly Cooper 3
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario 64
Sonic Adventure 1/2/Heroes

I could just go for sequels/prequels but I fancy something new

EDIT 2: I enjoy screwing around on Assasin's Creed, but what I'v seen of the real game, eg, the missions and such is that it's the same thing over and over again and apparentley very easy and reppetative in terms of combat. I'v been tempted to buy this for a while but the 'meat' of the game has put me off buying it for a while now. Shoving guys off rooftops is very fun but it seems like there is no challange in the real game whatsoever.

Have you not played any of the Ratchet and Clank games?

Because those are all 3D Platformer Perfection.

The Jak and Daxter series is very good as well. If you are not into gun play the first one is completely devoid of it, and its my personal favorite as well.

I'm a dumbass. Nevermind. I'll leave my original suggestion up as a sign of shame.

    I-Ninja is like Mario 64-2.

Edit: But not quite as good.

Edit2: And seriously, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

Seriously, they are both exactly as good as the reputation they have.

Buy a Wii and get Super Mario Galaxy? That's all I can think of that you don't have on the list above. Wasn't GEX a good game back in the day?

Try Castlevania: Curse of Darkness or the Nightmare Before Christmas game. I loved them and they're super cheap.

Haven't played it for a very long time, but I remember loving the shit out of that game.

    I was like 12 though.

    Limed for FUCK YES.

If you decide you're in the mood for a violent challenge, pick up Devil May Cry 1 or 3 SE (I hear 2 blows) or Ninja Gaiden Black. Arguably the most excellent 3D action games of the last generation.

This is more of an adventure in the vein of Zelda, but check out Okami too if you haven't already. I assure you, if you're disappointed, you shouldn't be playing video games.

I'd reccomend renting AC just to be sure you won't like it.
I wasn't impressed at first but grew to love it.
Also, might wanna check out Tomb Raider: Legend for 360. Good game that can be had for like, $15 used.

I'm gonna toss out Vexx here

it's a fun little platformer/brawler that maybe 3 people played

and I know it says Acclaim on the box but don't worry, it's pretty good

Limed for the truth, I got this game at Xmas, it sat on my desk till after the New Year, i've just started playing it and it's fuckawesome...

I just think the way the game introduces itself just instantly zaps the 'cool' factor from it until you actually put a couple of hours into it, and feel more like you are playing Altair rather than, you know:
A bartender in the future having his DNA read by futuristic machines, they should have just kept the game starting with Altair as a damn assassin instead of introducing some over the top, whoo waa, matrix shit!

wait, you're talking to Hotlead Junkie. he masterd playing DMC3 with a guitar hero controller!

i know you said 3D, but tomba on the psx was a good rpg/platformer. its 2D, although i hear it can be difficult to find. the only other game i can think of is Mark of Kri. pretty cool game imo, not much platforming but you could probably ease through it.

Yes, I just compared playing I-Ninja to gettin' a Blo-Jay.

I played through Maximo this past summer and it was probably one of the most frustratingly difficult games I had played in years.

    It was good though.

Holy crap, I forgot all about this game. (Probably because my PS2 and all my PS2/PSX games were stolen years ago)

Tomba was a fantastic game. I never played the sequel because I was immediately disappointed at their decision to go 3D, but man... if you can find a copy of the first one? Jump on that.

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but I'm throwing God of War into the mix. My first play through it was perfect: challenging, but never too hard. Even some of the most difficult parts of the game only take a couple of tries, but that doesn't mean you walk all over them. Times puzzles and such give you exactly the time you need to complete them, for example. It's kind of hard to explain, but if I had a choice I would want every game ever made to have this difficulty curve.

Yeah, honestly... I loved the original, but that's probably because I played it when it came out.

But now that I've been through Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal, they just did everything better. Man, if there's one regret I have about staying away from the PS3, it's missing out on R&C Future.
