I'm able to buy a Nintendo DS PHAT with stupid ass skull stickers on it for $30 dollars, should I do it? :...:

If you don't own a DS, why the hell not. So long as it works it's a DS and it's wonderful, I love my phat.

It's decided. Thanks, hopefully I can get those damn stickers off.

What game should I buy first?

Yes. Buy it and puzzle quest and just leave them next to the toilet.

yes. Some Goo-Gone should take care of the stickers problem.

Yes. If nothing else you could probably resell it for a nice profit.

But if it's your first DS... the library is too vast. Think you can narrow down what kind of games you want?

I'd definitely like to get some "serious" games, I'm not really into the Wario Ware crazy mini-game games. I know I'd definitely be picking up the Final Fantasy games, Pokemon games, and of course... Sonic RPG. As far as "puzzle games" are concerned, I've enjoyed that surgery game on my friends DS.

Just make sure to try it out a bit before buying. I've seen abused DS that had parts of the touchscreen not responding very well to stylus input.

It's been done. I'll be going to LameStop in about an hour. I'm thinking about picking up Phantom Hourglass.

    Yay or Nay?

    Maybe FFIII?

FFIII suffers from some tragic gameplay decisions that were a lot more forgivable when it was first released in the NES era.

    I don't think it's worth it. It's certainly not a first purchase.

even if you have a ds, you should get another so that you can trade with yourself etc ie pokemon.

I'm pretty sure that this is the worst possible reason to buy it.

I'd have to say that that's $30 better spent towards the superior DS Lite but either way you're going to have some fun.

Is the lite that much 'better'? I own a phat one, cause it was red and I have this weird thing for red so I've been happy with it, plus the lite wasn't out then. However I've been thinking of picking one up for a friend and if the lite is that much better they might end up with a used one. I don't tend to pack mine around a lot, used mostly before bed and on my annual plane ride is about all.

I would so buy a spare DS for thirty dollars.

That's only 15 pounds in real money.

Good move. Just don't buy brain training then show it to your Mom. Unless you have a good source for a second DS.

Once you beat Phantom Hourglass sell it back and get something with a little more staying power. I'm talking Etrian Odyssey here.

The Lite is a lot smaller and the screens are a lot brighter. I never owned a phat but I really, really love my glossy black lite.

You can pick up a bigger stylus for your Phat separately, so that's not really an issue.

Really the only issue I've found is weight, and even then it only applies to games that want to you use both the d-pad and stylus controls. These are usually first-person titles like Metroid Prime: Hunters or Dementium: the Ward, but the scheme does show up elsewhere. Any game that wants to be played by you basically supporting the DS with your off-hand is going to be a bit more uncomfortable on the Phat.

If it was local it wouldn't be online. All games with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection symbol on them has online play. If you want to play with specific people you need to register their friend code and they need to register yours.

Anybody want to battle in PHG? :D:D I assume (I think I've seen one before) there's a megathread with a list of friend codes. I think I'll go find that right quick.

The Lite version seems to dainty for me and my constant Elite Beat Agents gaming time and such, whenever I hold one it feels like I'm going to break it. I'v had my Phat for years, it's battle scarred to hell and doesn't even have a screen protector (I'm sure that those symbols from Castlevania: DS have been permanantley etched in there) and the only problem I'v ever had with my Phat is that I couldn't play Advance Wars 2 DS in the blinding light of a hot summer's day. Apparentley you can with a lite and it's brighter screen but seeing as this is England that's hardly ever going to be an issue.

Once you finish Phantom Hourglass, purchase:

    All the Phoenix Wrights
    Elite Beat Agents
    Rocket Slime

Easily my 5 favorite recently released games.

Or, you could play multiplayer on Phantom Hourglass for hours. :P
