Recommend me a whole heap of games to buy.

Going out today after getting over sars and spending weeks and weeks of saved cash on a crapload of games. But even though I kinda know whats good and what isn't, I have no idea what I want to buy right now, especially for my Ps3 which I have just cracked open (from it's hushed casket as it were)

Basically I'm in a kind of RPG groove and I am looking for RPGs on all fronts. Anything from epic 60 hour quest driven adventures to quick snappy plot driven hand held games. Really anything with EXP in it.

Also, looking for some music based games on any system. I've decided not to get GH3 as I'm saving for Rockband in a month or so (which will be awesome) but perhaps E4 or EBA. How are those?

DS I was looking at maybe one of the new Phoenix Wrights, no idea which one is good though. Perhaps a Final Fantasy remake too. Is Geometry Wars galaxies any good? There are also a shitstorm of JRPG style games on the DS. Which ones are good?

360 I just got crackdown but id like something deeper. coming off of mass effect i honestly have no idea what to go for. i hear mixed things about both eternal sonata and blue dragon (neither of which grab me initially but im totally up for taking a chance on either)

PS3 I only own Warhawk, Uncharted and Ratchet. So really anything else that is good Im totally down for buying. While Im not ignorant of what games exist on the PS3 not being a PS3 owner until recently I have kinda glazed over what games are really standouts, or at the very least quality solid games.

Im looking to get way more use out of my DS too. I was looking at the games I have for it yesterday and my library is abysmal. I have NSMB, the first Phoenix Wright, Hotel Dusk, Dawn of Sorrow and Pokemon Diamond ONLY.

Since you've already got Phoenix Wright 1, may as well grab the 2nd (And Justice For All). It continues some of the story from the first game, and is well worth playing. The next Advance Wars is due to hit soon as well, I think.

For 360, tried Bioshock? It's pretty great. More FPS than RPG, but it's excellent. Or you could snag Orange Box if you haven't played Portal on PC.

Blue Dragon is a great game. The story is pretty standard stuff, but the combat/job system is just beautiful. They've even released DLC that increases the game's difficulty (seriously, if you've ever played an RPG before, play on Hard. The normal difficulty is hilariously easy). Eternal Sonata is also pretty nice, but I haven't gotten very far, so I don't have much to say about it.

Folklore is on PS3 and has a pretty cool JRPG vibe to it. I haven't gotten very far into it but what I've played so far seemed fun. Has DLC missions as well, if you're into that kind of thing, the Christmas mission pack is free anyway.

I got Eternal Sonata for Christmas, it has its moments and i like the characters; but be prepared to put up with very long cut scenes and samey battles. If you have your Xbox 360 connected to live, you should try the demos for Eternal and Blue dragon.

Also, i can never recommend bioshock enough.

How... how did you get SARS?

I spent 3 months in hospital with Endocarditus, but I never knew you could catch SARS in the UK?

It probably grew organically out of his icky neck beard.

Without kidding though, get Advance Wars: Dual Strike. It's the best DS game ever and has a very nice RPG element to it in that your COs can "level up" and improve their abilities by gaining experience.

ALso if you liked Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk, Trace Memory is a must have. And the Mario RPG, "Partners in Time", is a lot of fun too.

PC? How about the PC? King of the epic RPG. I know you have one because you posted here.

Neverwinter Nights 2 (plus Mask of the Betrayer), Baldur's Gate II, and The Witcher alone will take more than 150 hours combined. Far more, probably.

On the "still long but not so epic" front you've got Planescape: Torment, Fallout, and Arcanum.

For the "short compared to long ones but still awesome games" category there's KOTOR, KOTOR II, and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

Finally there's Oblivion which is just as long as you want to make it, as long as you mod it of course. The mods make it 1000x more awesome.

Blue Dragon is like the child of Dragon Quest 8 and Final Fantasy 5 with high definition graphics on top. Depending on how much you liked or disliked those games, you should have a really good idea of whether or not you're going to like Blue Dragon. Seriously though, it's a fantastic game, but I can see how it's not for everyone. Definitely download the free Difficulty pack and play it on Hard mode if you're an experienced RPGer: on easy mode, it's laughably easy, but on hard mode, it's pleasantly difficult.

I didnt catch sars from my neckbeard pfft. probably from that family of chinese people who stayed at my flat last week
joking. i dont have sars. i just got sick and cant get better ever

as for pickups: folklore. only played half an hour or so and while the game is perhaps a little 'off' the visuals are stunning and more than make up for it being a little samey.
graphics do matter ive always said.

for my 360 i got eternal sonata. i took your advice and downloaded the demo this morning before going out. convinced me it was worth a shot i havent opened it yet though. certainly looks cool.

didnt get anything for my ds but i did order phantom hourglass from amazon just cause its so cheap and hell i need some stuff for my ds.

thanks for all the advice guys.

Very. There's a mission structure, you have drones that aid you in various ways and upgrade the more you use them and the controls are much better IMO. It's definitely worth getting.

Everyone in this damned country is sick. I came down with this dumbass plague a week ago on friday, and it looked to be just about over by the thursday just gone. Then Thursday night, *BAM*, back like alexander_godunov.jpg this chap at the end of Die Hard.
What's sad is, I got Assassin's Creed the day before all this hit, and have hardly felt up to playing it :( Need to get it finished (but properly, not rushed) before I get a bunch of birthday things.

edit: as such, I'm totally on the lookout for DS stuff that I can play in bed.

Ahhhhhh, should have got Blue Dragon instead!

On the DS side, yeah, EBA is pretty great. Ouendan is the best in the series though, and is one of my favorite rhythm games ever.

    PS3: Folklore
PS2: Anything with Shin Megami Tensei in the title (assuming your PS3 is an 80 gigger)
    X360: Blue Dragon

Also, get Enchanted Arms for either the Xbox 360 or PS3. I have the 360 version but I heard the PS3 version has extra characters or some shit. Maybe that was Eternal Sonata, though, I dunno.

I considered Blue dragon but like i said, it just doesnt interest me from a purely artistic standpoint. I dont like that style too much.

ill grab the demo though for sure. lots of people have said its good so i wont ignore that.

Everyone hated the demo, and many of the same people enjoyed the final game. You'd be better off renting it first.

For the love of all that is sweet and pure, don't download the Blue Dragon demo. It has major spoilers, both in story and in gameplay (it starts you out with every character having every single ability in the game). Plus it's no fun since you're uber powerful and yet don't know what you're doing.

I thought the demo was god-awful. I basically railed against the game at great length. Then I acquiesced to other's claims and purchased it. I thought it was an ugly piece of shit and the combat was boring from the demo. The full game reversed my opinion 180-degrees.

As bruin says, rent it. Don't even look at that waste of a demo.
