Just a quick question someone might be able to help me with. I have 2 accounts. One has a free month of LIVE, which I have been playing Cod 4 on relentlessly. After that experience, I want to purchase a year of LIVE. However, the account with my scores (Bravo) isn't the name I want. Is there a way to change the name of it to my first account? (Alpha). If not, I'll just buy the year with my Alpha account...but getting those cod 4 scores will take a lot of time.
TLDR- Can I change the name of my LIVE account from Heli193 to mooshoepork?
You can change the Gamertag to anything you want (so long as the name is not already taken/registered with the Xbox LIVE service). It costs 800 funbucks ($10).
You didn't state it, but is the Alpha account LIVE enabled already? If so, you probably won't be able to do it. I'm not sure if MS allows for double switching, but that's $20.
Alpha isn't LIVE enabled. The month ran out on that. Here's the timeline:
mooshoepork- free month - didnt really use it at all
heli193 - free month - use it tonnes. Want to upgrade to a year, and change the name of the account to mooshoepork.
Note the difference between being Live enabled and being Live Gold. If you have EVER taken an account onto the internet (even if it's only a Silver, or free, account), you cannot use that account's name on a different account.
There's a chance that if you change Alpha's account name ($10), you can then change Bravo's name to be Alpha's original name (another $10), but I honestly don't know if that will work.
Probably not then. The Alpha profile you mention is, in fact, LIVE enabled (meaning: already registered in their servers). If it was simply a local-only profile, then you could've deleted the Alpha locally and renamed the Beta using their system.
You could ask them at 1.800.4MY.XBOX if double switching is possible, but I doubt it.
Well that blows... I guess ill buy it on my mooshoe account, and re-do the cod 4 stuff.
Another question for the sake of the thread:
If I buy a LIVE sub from overseas, I assume it won't work here in AUS? Or will it?
Heh. Squirminator2k is having an issue about something similar here. Check it out to see if your situation might be similar.
However, I'm guessing that you wouldn't have any troubles using such an account (i.e. purchased through the US, used in AUS). You'd simply have to continue to renew through the originating region. Check with your local LIVE support to be sure.
To sum up a part of Squirm's issue is that he moved from the UK to the US and wants to transfer regions. Apparently that's not possible. He tried to use US codes to renew and it didn't work. Make sure that what you use to renew any subscriptions match the region the account was created it. Otherwise you could be wasting some money.
