Crackdown, should I buy it?

DharmaBumDharmaBum Registered User regular
edited February 2008 in Games and Technology
So I got a 360 for Christmas, and I've been amassing games to play for when I return to college for the spring semester.

It seems that everyone pegged Crackdown as their "sleeper hit of the year" and it seems like a fun game.

What I was wondering was is it was still worth it to buy, even if I won't have anyone to play around with in co-op mode as none of my friends own it, and it seems that PA has sort of moved on from the game.

I'd kinda rather not drop the money on it if it's going to be no fun without anyone to play it with. So can somone help me out?

The single player is still damn fun, but the co-op is by far the best part. Try to find some people to play with if you can. If you can't though I'd still pick it up.

Also, grab all of the free content and the 800 point add-on. The expansion is some of the best DLC that has come out on the 360 so far. It adds SO MUCH good stuff to the game.

One of the best games of the year, and EASILY worth the $25 bucks it's going for now. The DLC is also WELL worth it. Plus, co-op is ridiculously fun.

    So, yes.

It's old, but its great for just jumping around the city blowing shit up. It's kinda like Hulk: Ultimate Destruction in that regard.

Like others have said, GET THE DLC. It's so worth it. Shit, cheat mode alone is fucking brilliant.... I don't know any other game that lets you make jumps and pyrotechnics.

    Downsides:

    - Rather short if you decide to blaze through it by killing all gang bosses ASAP. If you take your time and gather orbs and stuff and just randomly explore it'll last longer.
    - Stupid save system. You have one save per profile. Want a new game? Reset your save and lose the old game, or make a new profile for the new game.
    - Not really a whole lot of variety in the game.

...and that's really all I had to complain about. I still think it's one of the best 360 games I bought last year.

They're both awesometastic games, though Crackdown has a lot more polish and I played it for a lot longer.

Co-op is great on both, but EDF is the only one you can play split-screen co-op with. This may be a deciding factor (I'm speaking for others, you already have EDF), but I can absolutely say that Crackdown is worth the price.

for what it is worth, I really enjoy crackdown. It fits my gaming personality. Sometimes I am not in the mood to get into a larger adventure. I can simply hop into Crackdown, throw some cars, toss propane tanks at grounds of enemies and blow it up with a well placed shot right as it lands...Kicking people off mountain tops.

And I haven't even gotten Xbox live yet. I am sure once I do it will extend my enjoyment.

Just get it if you have the 20 bucks to spare. If it is not worth it for you, you have not lost much.

Yes, but even when you restart story, it's not like you can have a "Story Finished" version of the game, and also a "Keep beating the game over and over" version concurrently. You can only save the story progress in a single slot.

Anyone notice how some things (mattresses and the copy machines in Highrise) are totally impenetrable? A steel wall, yeah that makes sense, but bullets should obliterate copy machines.

I don't know about you, but I always buy a bullet proof printer. Its a lot more expensive, but I think the advantages are apparent.

The game is quality. I was hoping that they would give us 2 more mission trees/gangs in future DLC. Really, this was an enjoyable sandbox game. Half the fun is just zipping around in an overpowered car and causing mayhem with another friend online.

I know there is another EDF forum but I'm still happy with my purchase. It took me a good 4 months to find this game and it was worth the $17 I paid. I knew it wasn't going to be a high spec game either.

The other half of the fun is crouching on top of NPC cars (of which there are many) with a decent rifle in hand, and popping the tires on other cars as you go past them.
Just do it for 5 minutes and see if you can stop.

Im pretty sure cheat mode is free DLC. You only pay for the rocket races, new vehicles and weapons. My 360 is off on repairs, so I can't double check, but almost positive you can get keys to the city and cheat mode, among other things, for free.

I spent an entire afternoon doing this near a tunnel, watching cars careen into the ocean or cause huge pileups. There us so much fun shit to do. The Harpoon gun in the DLC is easily the most entertaining thing ever.
Hell, having Roshambo matches with your friends is entertaining for hours.
I maxed out my character and got so addicted to simply kicking people to death.
Also, doing insane jumps off buildings in the SUV or Buggy is fun every time.

Does one need Gold to get the free or pay DLC? I am currently sharing my Xbox with a friend that lives a few blocks away, so I don't want to buy a year of xbox live when I'd only be able to use it for half the year.

I remember discovering how well some of the larger vehicles would skid if all their tires were shot off, and sending them down long hills, then jumping on top, surfing a multi-ton vehicle down a highway with a rocket launcher in hand. That was fun.

You do not need Gold to download the pack, but a lot of it's features are geared towards playing with others. It is still worth it just for single player, though.

May I also mention some nice deals you'll also see for under $20?
