[Opinion On!] Shadowrun for the Xbox360 worth a buy?
So, back in the day before I had a 360 I remembered reading about plans to make a new-gen "Shadowrun" focused around the idea of online play. Well, after having it mentioned by a relative of mine I found that not only has it been released but that its selling for a low price of 20$ (American).
Now heres the tricky part, after asking several people their opinion on the game I am getting some incredibly mixed views. Some people tell me that the game isn't even worth getting off the couch for and others believe that it is indeed the greatest thing since sliced bread.
So fellow members of the "interwebs" Shadowrun, worth a buy?
The game wasn't bad, but I don't think there is any single player mode and I would doubt many are still playing it online with Halo3, TF2, and COD4 having come out since it has.
Yes especially if you can find it for around 19.99 or at the most 29.99
It's a good game if you have people to play with, I would recommend it though not the best game but certainly not a bad game either just when it came out, it was to expensive.

It was a cool game in it's own right though it shouldn't have been based on the license it was. Though I'm going to have to say no by simple virtue that the game was just released last year and support has already been dropped for it.
The game was pretty damn fun actually. It is well worth the $20 if people are still playing it. I haven't even tried to get a game for like 6 months so I have no idea what the community is like for it now.
Last time tried to fire up a game, I waited about 10mins for a 4 player game and I don't think I even selected a 4 player map it's just all that was available. It was fun when people were playing it, I had a few good nights on it but if no one is playing just not worth it.

Not with games like Halo 3, CoD 4, and Team Fortress 2 out. No.

Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust
Well worth 20$ if you can find 4 people to play it, I think is the concensus, the online community is barren. The forums recently got shut down for it even, and the members "you dont haveto go home, but you cant stay here"
I really liked the gameplay but I didn't buy it because it was
1. too expensive
2. the playerbase was extremely small and a lot of people prefer tf2/halo3/cod4(too bad none of those games gave the same experience as shadowrun

I liked it. I bought it. I switched from Vista to XP. Haven't looked back.
Pardon the tinfoil hat but, I feel bad about this game because it seems to have been used as a reason to liquidate the FASA studio. I don't think MS wanted the game to succeed, so they jacked it around, forced it vista only, etc. to intentionally kill it. I imagine they did this just to own the IP so they could license them out to others for the fat license cash.

I liked the game, but it's basically online-only (though you can play single-player against and with bots if you like) and the playerbase is probably pretty small by now. If it's deeply discounted it might be worth a pickup, but I wouldn't pay full price at this point.
The gameplay IMO was really fun and due to the spells kinda unique as far as FPS games go. The problem is they said they had plans for DLC (maps modes etc..) but they got shut down right out of the gate and it never really got the support it should have.
Running around as an elf with a SMG and katana rezzing giant Trolls with miniguns and hacking dwarves to peices was too much fun.
Something else I loved was how it really encouraged teamwork. It was one of the few games (least in the begining) were random strangers actually attempted to work as a team, lending money, making sure the team was balanced, calling positions and rezing. Really fun.
Shadowrun was one of those games which was laughably bad at times in things like the presentation, artwork, UI, etc. For example, there was no animation for climbing ladders, so it would look like you just levitated to the top.
Yet, the gameplay was surprisingly good. My friends and I still spent a lot of time on multiplayer, when it first came out.
Nowadays, there's Halo 3 and CoD 4 to fill our multiplayer needs. If you can get this game for cheap, and either people to play with or are fine with playing against bots, then go for it.

Yeah the climbing animations thing was jarring and pretty ridiculous. It seemed pretty clear that FASA was given notice that their game was going to come out that month even though it needed more time.
I thought that the weapons, powers and racial balance was pretty interesting. It could have used a little longer in the oven and some broader options I guess, but it really was a pretty nifty framework. Teleport was a pretty great mechanic, and I don't think I've seen melee work as well in an FPS before.

Nah. Microsoft's PC release of Alan Wake is Vista-only too. The company is pretty much requiring this for a lot of big PC releases with the hope of juicing Vista sales, but it seems to be driving even more people away from PC gaming.
I can't imagine recommending halo 3 over shadowrun (well I can since shadowrun is "unplayable" if the community is gone. But Shadowrun is a hell of a lot more fun). Shadowrun was a LOT of fun, it's unfortunate that the community has died. The game had some great ideas. I guess we can hope that something will rise from the ashes.
I played a couple games of Shadowrun a couple weeks ago and didn't have any trouble finding matches to join. The match making has always been a little on the slow side though. I'd recommend this over Halo 3. But not over TF2 or CoD4 as far as multiplayer FPS's go..
While I can't really vouch for the game as it stands today, since I haven't played it in forever, but if you can get it cheaply, give it a shot.
The depth of the gameplay is unparalleled in an FPS. There's tons of combinations and playstyles waiting to be unlocked by the experimental gamer. You can play the game tons of different ways.
It was a severely underrated game. Partially deserved, but the fact that it's core gameplay was so well refined was worth a purchase for me.
CoD4 > TF2 > Shadowrun > Halo 3 and Gears is somewhere scraping the bottom of the barrel, wondering what went wrong with it's online.

Well that'll do it, guess its a no.
Wow
much better.
And team fortress comes with "Portal" on the same disk
If you have xbox live, snag the demo, see for yourself. It was neat, but it didn't seeme to warant a purchase.
But yeah, don't buy it. The community is non-existant at this time.
