I for one would like to see more voodoo magic of this nature. So far have not had any timeouts or instances of long load times, whereas this time yesterday I was getting them every second pageload.
Seems to be fine tonight. I usually open up D&D and hit "first new post" on about 20-30 threads when I get home. Usually one gets stuck loading, causing a chain reaction. Haven't seen this tonight. Thanks!
I hope this one really speeds things up around here. Around peak hours, let me know how you think the speed of this place is compared to before.
Thanks!

Things have been pretty good thus far this AM, but I just hit a brief timeout (about 8-10 seconds) and the Load Average spiked to 4.5 concurrent with the timeout. Not sure what might have caused it in this case.
I hit a snag similar to Ramius literallly as I opened other threads in the Circus (and obviously can't give you the load numbers) but it was much shorter than the timeouts I had before.

another micro-timeout just now, about 6-8 second wait. Load average looks to be 7.22, yikes. I forget where I saw mention of read locks or other issues with the slave database, but especially since you only activated it for the search page, I wouldn't expect to be getting this.
Same happenings here, but it's happening with a lower volume of threads being opened than I'm used to. I mentioned that I get the hangup/chain reaction when I open 20-30 D&D threads (new tabs in Firefox) but it's starting to happen when I open 4-5 threads as I participate 'live' in D&D. I suppose it's not any worse than the previous report I gave but it's just happening with a smaller amount of threads being opened.

Just hit a batch of timeouts similar to the typical from last week. 18 seconds waiting for a thread to load, then 10 seconds waiting for this forum to load so I could come in and report it, and another 12 seconds waiting for this thread to load.

Things seem to be running much smoother when loading the forums, but I'm still occasionally getting about 15-20 second delays when opening threads. Maybe you should add more speed holes to the side of the server boxes :P
Thanks for the update though, it's a big improvement.

Alpha, I got a full-out timeout (30+ seconds) just now, and it doesn't seem to have happened at the database because my page which has no database connections also timed out. I also saw load average go through the roof (62.78 25.49 12.83), so if you're playing with the server config right now, it's not helping.

10 min later, and it is still continuing to be rough, alpha. I just had 30+ second wait when posting a quick reply, and I've had some noticable delays loading forums or threads. Last night and this AM things were looking pretty good, tonight it seems like the bad old days all over again.
For the past ten minutes or so, it's timing out when I try to go to the User control panel. And I'm trying to check a PM, but it won't uncheck itself as unread. So I'm getting the New PM popup every page...

I agree, things are all haywire, and from a software standpoint I don't see anything wrong. I'm thinking this is hardware of system-configuration related. I've got an email in to alphamonkey (that is completely his problem domain) and hopefully things will clear up shortly.
Still dragging ass. Opened 14 threads and had issues waiting for them to load, took a few minutes for them all to come up. Opening this thread took about 20 seconds.

Just after hitting 5 time outs in a row while trying to open 3 separate thread (2 in G&T, 1 in D&D) and currently I'm getting 30 second and upward delays when trying to open threads.

If the patch works, then awesome.
Although it does seem a bit quicker.
Thanks.
Hopefully it keeps working this well.
Your hard work is appreciated Alpha, thanks.
Edit: And as soon as I say that it's back to being snappy again.
Thanks :^:
