Check out Biffy Clyro. They're like Foo Fighters but from the UK. The new album Puzzle is great.

If you like Aerosmith you might like Deep Purple - Machinehead is a good album to start with, and individual songs that arent mainstream (aka Smoke on the Water) would be "Fireball", "Burn", or the live version of "Speed King".

GnR and Metallica - check out Motorhead. They were speed metal before there was such a thing. "Ace of Spades" is a good song to start out with.

GH3 - Mississippi Queen - try Foghat's "Slow Ride" or perhapse Rainbow's "All Night Long" - which may well have the single worst lyrics in all of rock. For Southern Rock with a driving beat, Molly Hatchet is a good bet, or check out the Outlaw's first album, "The Outlaws".

Cliffs of Dover is on GH3? That's awesome; maybe I'll finally get around to playing one a' them Guitar Hero games. It can't be any harder than playing the song on a real guitar, as anyone who has tried can tell you that it's fucking impossible.

Anyway, for more instrumental melodic electric guitar virtuosity that often veers into wankery (but come on, that just comes with the territory), check out Joe Satriani or Steve Vai.

    You need more Beatles.

Admittedly you cannot possibly get more mainstream, but it's still awesome.

I'm as big a fan of the Beatles as anyone, but they don't really bear much resemblance to the bands the OP mentioned. He's asking for stuff that sounds similar.

Speaking of which, maybe you just didn't list them because they're too obvious, but if you like Dave Grohl and the melodic grunge-pop sound, you should obviously check out Nirvana. Foo Fighters' entire first album was basically a Nirvana ripoff (in a good way).

Edit: And it goes without saying that if you like Phil Collins you should check out Peter Gabriel and/or Genesis. Peter Gabriel is like the good Phil Collins (sorry, the truth hurts).

Oh, I donno - when Collins took over the vocals from Grabriel it was some good stuff. Not a huge fan of any of the lot (though Peter Gabriel's Passion is a must for any collection.)

Yeah, the Genesis stuff is pretty much the same... I was comparing their subsequent solo careers.

Foo Fighters/QotSA sound: Look back at their influences. If you want to go into classic stuff, check out Led Zeppelin, the Who and Rolling Stones. Further from that, there are early '90s bands that are hard to miss like Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Jane's Addiction and the Toadies if the grunge sound is your thing.

Newer stuff, I can tell you Wolfmother will not disappoint you. Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Velvet Revolver are similar in tastes with all the above bands.

That reminds me - Oasis had some fun little ditties - "Cigarettes & Alcohol" has this great distorted gitaur sound, and then the lead gituar is so beautifully clear it just rises out of the noise. "Supersonic" sounds like it was written by They Might Be Giants, but its a catchy piece.

Coheed and Cambria are pretty damn good, and are quite similar to the op bands, We are scientists would also be good. You'd probably like Test Icicles aswell, there quite different, but very good and not mainstream at all.

also the mars volta, they're nothing like any of the bands you posted, but EVERYONE should love the mars volta.

I like test icicles quite a bit, but I'd place a good bet on the OP hating them
